I've had my HF box since black friday and been working out of it almost everyday since. Absolutely love it and its been holding up great, but the factory top liner is about done. Between carb cleaner, hydraulic fluid, gear oil, etc... it's raising up off the box and looks awful, plus i no longer have a flat work surface. Want to avoid a mild steel plate just for the fact of keeping it oiled so it doesn't rust, and i don't have time during the week to run to the steel supplier and try to get a section of stainless cut. Cruising around Menards website i found their old worktops on sale for $100+shipping, with the 11% rebate. A stainless top is listed at 1" thick, 55.5"x19.75". Not at the shop to measure my HF box but i know the top dimensions are very similar.

So has anybody attempted to use one of these Masterforce tops on a HF box yet? Or does anybody know of a drop-in option for tops?

The HF 56" is deeper than that old masterforce box so it no go really .
Nothing going be drop in really, simplest would be ordering some 3/4 ply and double layer it and either coat with an oil or make effort get stainless plate cut to skin over ply .
ply and oil coated cheap quick and pretty durable.
In some ways I prefer ply over stainless . I used decent ply for many years on my old Matco boxes in daily shop and was great .

I don't know about the 56" but I just got one of their 72" stainless tops to go on my husky 72" box. Plan to install it this weekend.

You could also go with a butcher block top. I would love to get a 56" toolbox one of these days and the HF box looks good and can be had locally for a pretty decent deal. I'm tempted to go for an extreme tools box because I like the drawer latches better and like the stainless top option - but for the price difference I think a butcher block top would be a good option so we'll see. I'm not out of space between my 26" stack and my HF cart and garage cabinets so since I'm a hobbyist and not a pro I'll wait and keep my options open but that's how I"m leaning.
