I'm doing some research for a friend of mine who has a cheap Mastergrip tool set- I will say I do like the ratchets though. Who is Mastergrip made by, or is it really just Mastergrip? I can't seem to find any information on them online which is odd for a tool set that supposedly offers a lifetime warranty...

Thank you,
Techniker

My first set (Im 23) that I bought when I was 16 was a Mastergrip 3 drawer box from costco.

Love the set. Missing 3-4 sockets but I love them. The Socket drivers are great. Chrome, longer then the normal CMan's of my other set and work like a champ.

If I think I might break one, I switch to my Cman's lol

i think all trade makes them

Correcto!

They're rather nice for being a sorta "off" brand, just saw a ton at TSC, and I was very tempted to buy, but none of it is made anywhere I like

I have the Alltrade MasterHand 3/8s socket set. I am fairly happy with it. I paid $20 or $25 for it. I have used those sockets to change out an alternator, starter, battery cables, and an ignition switch with decent enough results. Plus the wrench can be broken down and serviced if needed.

I am resurrecting this thread because I googled this brand and it took me here.

I just bought a 2 draw Mastergrip tool box at a Garage Sale that had a handful of tools in it. It was unorganized and it was so cheap it did not matter what was in side of it.

When I got home it had mostly Mastergrip sockets. Not a complete set of anything but it was all metric sizes except the 13/16 spark plug socket. I am not sure if the box was purchased separately or if it came with a socket set. It had some other hand tools I plan to add to my car tool bag.

Never heard of this brand and was curious and found this thread. I will say the finish looks nice and the corners on the 6 pt sockets looked well relieved to take pressure off of the fasteners corners.
From the comments above the original owner likely bought it at Costco. There were not any TSC around here until about 7 or 8 years ago and it seems this was likely purchased before that. Unfortunately most of the sockets were not there and it came with a 3/8 C'man ratchet and one unbranded 3/8 flex stubby. Too bad as folks said they liked the Mastergrip ratchets. I will try them out and maybe make a few complete sets with other odd brands I find at yard sales.

Re-resurrecting this thread, because I recently filled a wrench gap in an old (not vintage) Mastergrip toolset and came across this thread that lacks pictures.

My first tool set was this Mastergrip set, probably bought from Costco. I think my dad bought it for me when I bought my first house (late 90’s).

Recently, I replaced a missing a 3/8” combination wrench and with a Bonney from HJE that fit from a height and thickness perspective.. IMG_1482.jpeg
into the green blow molded case.IMG_1483.jpeg
Of course being on GJ.com, I have nicer sets of USA (or Taiwan) made hand tools now, but I still have this as a backup set and it’s my only socket set for the rare times I need them.
