Anyone have a clue as to who makes these and where they are made? I was just looking around the net and ran across their page. I've never shopped there before. Are they just another door to China or do they have decent stuff? It looks like they carry an odd assortment of stuff.

How about the Duracraft tools from Blains Farm and Fleet? I have shopped there and they DO have a wide variaty of thing. Boots to oil filters. Very strange!

Both of these names have a store return lifetime warranty. I seem to recall Duracraft having something to do with Wally world (Wall-Mart) at some point. It has been well over 15 years since I have even stepped into a Wal-mart so I could be mistaken.

Duracraft I think was once owned my Honeywell <sp?> but since they have been sold I have no idea who or where thay are owned. I do think the tools were once made in the USA though.

My local TSC did a tool dept. revamp and brought in the MasterHand stuff. It's very shiny, but everything I looked at was made in China.

Danaher, maybe.

From what I saw on the web site, they might even be cheaper than HF. The HF Pittsburg Professional stuff is prety good quality. I know its made in China, still, they need quality too. How would you rank the quality of say, the combo wrenches compaired to the HF ones?

To be honest, I'm about sick of hearing "but its made in China." Okay, so I have posted how much I can't stand China, HOWEVER....... Globalization IS going to happen. Its how the USA deals with it and how we figure out the way to be on top in the end that counts. Just because it is made in China, Ty-one-on, Japan, Korea, India or here doesn't make it good or bad quality. I am trying to figure out who has decent quality tools for the price.

Craftsman and Pittsburg Pro seem to be the best, middle of the road quality that I have found. Sunex maybe has good stuff. I'm just trying to find out others.

I hear you. As much as it pains me to accept tools from the orient, you gotta give GearWrench it's due credit. And I have yet to break any Pittsburgh tool from HF (their impact sockets amaze me for the price).

Other good lower cost brands:

Channellock
Allen
OTC (yeah, they make a few hand tools)
Husky (certain items)
Kobalt (some stuff)
Some Stanley stuff
Irwin

Why ask the question if you don't want to hear the answer ? :headscrat

As far as the tools themselves, I own a SAE & METRIC 7pc. ratcheting combo wrench sets and they are fine for what I needed (Not a mechanic) BUT I bought them online last month on sale for 40% off, plus I had a coupon they mailed me which basically covered the shipping, making the sets 23.99 each, Would I pay full price for them, 39.99....... NO

I do want to hear the answer. I ACCEPT the fact that globalization is inevitable. Doesn't mean I like it, I just know it will happen. Sooner rather than later. When it does happen, I would like to know the good from the bad.

Again, I never touched the TSC brand, I was just wondering if it was any good. Something for me to file away for future use.

I'm sick of hearing it - and reporting it.

Any ideas as to how we are going to end up "on top"? It looks futile from here.

Everyone should do their best to avoid Chinese tools. Why give money to a country who gives us things such as lead in kids toys and poison pet food ingredients.

On the news this morning they were reporting that there had been a recall on a blood thinning drug, Heparin, that is being linked to adverse reactions and deaths. Guess where they think it came from.
That's right, China.

Also, you have their great record on human rights and that little problem with Tibet.

I can't think of many mechanics hand tools that you can't go to Sears and buy for a marginal difference. There are a few such as Gearwrench which has a large difference between imported and domestic.

I'm sick of hearing of Tibet too! Not that I support the Chineese on this matter, just the opposite, but the people of Tibet are better off under Chineese rule than they were on their own. 90% of the people were slaves in their own country under self rule. Its not like China did any damage. Its simply anyother buzz cause for people to get in bed with and try to make themselves feel better about who they are.

I hear ya about The poisons. First dog food, then toys and now the drugs. You can't blame it all on the Chineese though. Remember, someone HERE is not doing proper QC on the items when the arrive.
