My daughter is trying to button up her house, plywood over windows and doors after a catastrophic house fire.

Can you still buy boxes of masterlock padlocks, all keyed the same?

What if I wanted a specific #, like 3084

We bought a couple boxes of 10 of the smaller and bigger sizes all keyed the same in the 1980s

Got it figured out. Found some locks. Just need a bunch more keys.

Just started on this quest this morning. The locksmith is closed on weekends.
I didn't want to call the emergency number

I wouldn't use nails, but a combination of nails and screws. I would also plywood the doors except for one that is visible. It isn't that difficult to knock off a lock or cut it off, unlike removing a large piece of plywood. In some cities, there are companies whose only business is securing homes after a fire or other disaster. Many times, the costs are part of the homeowner's insurance.

Google AI:

Companies specializing in emergency boarding and securing fire-damaged homes 24/7 include 1-800-BOARDUP, Atlantic Restoration, EC Restore, and Boston Board Up. These professionals secure broken windows, doors, and roofs to prevent further damage, looting, or vandalism.
  • 1-800-BOARDUP: Focuses on immediate, 24/7 emergency response for fire-damaged properties.
  • Atlantic Restoration: Provides emergency board-up, roof tarping, and structural stabilization in CT, RI, and MA.
  • EC Restore: Offers boarding and securing services for fire, storm, and vandalism damage in New England.
  • Boston Board Up: Provides 24/7 emergency boarding, fencing, and insurance claim assistance.
  • Disaster Restoration Services (DRS): Offers 24/7 emergency response in CT and surrounding areas for fire damage.
  • BELFOR Property Restoration: Specializes in rapid response and securing damaged properties.
These companies work directly with insurance providers to facilitate the claims process.

If the damage is extensive, consider hiring an independent insurance claims adjuster. They know the ropes and will get you more money for the claim, and what they will charge is a pittance compared to what the insurance will pay. A friend thought that he could do it himself, and when the insurance company adjuster was being difficult about the cost of the repairs, he asked me what to do. I suggested an independent insurance claims adjuster, and he learned that many things he thought wouldn't be covered actually were. The insurance company paid for his entire library of carpentry books, which were water-damaged. He had to record all the titles and find their values, but it was worth it in the end. Without the independent adjuster, he wouldn't have gotten that money. His home was restored to better than it was before the fire because he had replacement value, which means a new refrigerator to replace the one that was 10 years old.

She already settled.
I haven't been in good enough shape to be any help
I told her to contact a lawyer before signing.
Her insurance was written for an amount
Not replacement
I think they gave her the full amount.

It's in a town of 300. The plywood is to just cover stuff up.
There's still a few things she will try to salvage, but not much.

We can order locks to any new or existing key code. There are some models that can be keyed in the field also. Master makes a version of their locks called the “UP“ series that was designed for hardware store to match your keying without keying the lock. You insert your key and drive the plug in sheering the pins so you key would now work.

I've been through that, and it is tough (and I had a lot of support). If you are in ill health, maybe you can help out with insurance paperwork and government forms to take a bit of the load off of her. If she owns the place, be prepared for "scrapers" showing up once the house is unoccupied. They stole everything outside of the house (central air outside units, outside light fixtures, etc.).

She's already had people in the house. Not sure if or what they may have taken.

I'm guessing kids. Someone broke a windows that wasn't already broke.
I just spent 5 weeks in Chicago for Carvykti CarT for high risk Multiple Myeloma.
There's not a lot I can do yet. On top of everything I am having arrythmias.
I hit 128 bpm yesterday afternoon.

I'm trying to find a new cardiologist
I just hate to start over. We thought we found a good one last year, but she wouldn't order the anesthesia for the cardiac MRI. The EP is at Northwestern

The EP had no recommendations for a new cardiologist that wasn't downtown at Northwestern.
