Just got a Kennedy lower rolling chest. I want to place my 20 year old Kennedy mechanics chest on top. Does anyone use a mat between the two boxes? Any recommendations?

If the top is smaller then the bottom, I'm guessing with a kennedy yes, a good rubber mat to protech the bottom box top. Sears may still, but use to sell a top mat for thier boxes since they are too cheap to include top mat and drawer liners with their boxes. If same size top and bottom, no mat and bolt the two together. My two cents.

I would do it, I purchased mine from my SO dealer for my SO rollaway to set my Mac chest on as to not scratch the top of rollaway and gave me a small ledge to set tools on.

Thanks, JASTECH

I use black ribbed carpet runner for matting between boxes. The ribs keep stuff from rolling off the box quite so easily.

I use a piece of clear lexan on top of the Vidmar roll around to protect it form the top box. It has the added benefit of giving me a clear countertop beneath which I keep threading and other useful charts.

I had some extra drawer liner left over. So I cut a piece as wide, but deeper than the bottom cart. The liner is flush with the front and sides, but the back drapes over about 2 inches. So when the cart is pushed up against the wall it doesn't actually touch the wall. Kind of like a bumper.

Drawer liner works pretty well... I used to be all paranoid about scratches on a cosmetic basis, until I realized that rust is an issue as well.

not to highjack but do you need to bolt the top box the the bottom?

It is an excellent theft deterrent. I have all my boxes bolted together. If you want to steal one you have to take them all. You'll need a flatbed tow truck or better to remove them!

a couple places that i worked at we had to move boxes around quite a bit, and this was back before carts were popular so i had tops/bottoms bolted, side boxes had small c clamps strategically placed just so nothing shifted.

when i moved from fl back in '98 everthing got unbolted, i had a forklift to help with some of the loading, but everything had to be unloaded by hand
none of it's every been put back exactly the same again.

my boxes at work havent been moved in 2 years, and before that ddint move for 4 years.

boxes at home dont get moved at all, unless it's for spring cleaning in the garage

I just went through the same thing when I was looking to replace the mat on top of my Tech 1000. Ended up just buying a roll for $12 from either Lowes or Home Depot. I may still have the reciept if you need more info.
