Matching Harbor Freight paint/powdercoat

Anyone have luck getting a store to match HF paint? I took a piece from a 5-drawer cabinet to Benjamin Moore and the guy totally stressed about it before keeping the part to "work on it". That was a couple days ago, and guessing it's sitting on a shelf forgotten. This is for a shop-built base for the cabinet to become a welder cart. It may well be powder-coated; does have to be a 1000% match but only "good enough for who it's for" (me).

I do know Columbia Coatings claims to have color matched powder for most of the US General colors, but I haven't used any of their stuff personally.

Weird.

I've had the kids at the Menard's paint counter match all kinds of random objects, materials, and scraps. They put it in the matchy machine, the machine goes "boop", they mix the paint according to what the machine says, and it's been pretty much perfect every time, at least within the limits of my eyeballs.

A few times I've really wondered if it's going to work, but when the paint dries it's bang on.

Sounds like the guy at the paint store needs to put the bong down, or get a grown-up to help. They're not selling car paint and clear coat, and you're not asking for that level of matching anyway.

He’s probably still searching on his phone to find a way to get it done.

Go to sherwin-williams. Their system is very good in my experience.

Pretty sure many Oreillys can do a scan and mix paint, including in a rattle can.

Thanks for all the replies--I did get the enamel paint from the store and it's a close enough match for this project. The guy at the store does good work as we've gotten spot-on matches for house paint from him before.

Seems likely that his scanner just couldn't quite handle the HF powdercoat for some reason. From what he said when I picked it up, it was hard to match the finish without it looking "washed out".

Good to know about Columbia Coatings and the others.
