Can anyone provide information on Matco box model "MB8546"? I can't find a reference to it anywhere on the net (Google searches and on Matco's site). It is supposedly 86 x 47 x 24 (which doesn't seem very deep for a box of that size).

Does anyone know when this model was sold? The seller claims to not know, other than mentioning that the side box was purchased "some years after" the main box. Also, can anyone confirm whether or not it is a true ball bearing box? It looks like the side box isn't designed to fit on that main box, and was put on using a spacer of some kind...can anyone shed any light on that?
He says both pieces are in "great condition" except for the butcher block top which is dirty and could be refinished.
What do you guys think about this box? Condition excluded (since it's hard to tell from pics) my 2 concerns are: 1) I'd ideally like a deeper box...the new 28" or even 31" boxes are nice, and 2) I'd prefer some additional really wide but shallow drawers for wrenches, instead this box has a bunch of separate shallow drawers, none of which are all that wide by themself.
Finally, what do you all think the pair would be worth? I'm in San Antonio, TX, as is the box.

Mark, thanks very much for looking. It does seem to be elusive -- I can find NO references to it on the internet. I wonder if I'll show up and find out that the seller misread the model number?

i have two friends who own same box you will look- it is a lot of storages but less deep than what i thought. but it is still big... i did play with those box while i was work with my friends. it is nice and smooth slide BUT sometime it would make little diffcult to open if not lube...
I got back not long ago from looking at the box. Punchline is that I didn't buy it.

A few misc notes:
The correct model number is MB8545...I think this error explains why I could not find it on the web, Merk couldn't find it, etc. It was manufactured in 1999, and the side box in 2002.
It's actually 26.5" deep, not 24" like he said. The drawers have actual usage depth of 25", and after seeing them in person, I agree with the others who have remarked (in other threads) that moving to this size box from a "homeowner box" is a big jump.
For a 10 year old box, used daily, the exterior condition was good (I'm not too sure what to expect, admittedly). It had lots of small nicks on the handles, some scratches and small dents on the box itself.
The inside was really dirty/grimy, and more importantly, some of the drawers didn't slide nicely at all. The owner said they just needed to be lubed, but I'm not so sure...one of them, for example, we could barely get open half way!

these slides are life time warranty. the one I bought had 3 slides with either missing bearing balls or messed up retaining rails. all replaced by my dealer no charge.
I have to agree, it's a lot work after getting an used box home, it took me about 4 days to clean my up, had brand new rubber liners(in a different thread), removed then reassembled every single drawer, slide. but it's totally worth it.

you can use that to drive the price down a lot, get it cheap, then warranty the slides

yep MB8545 makes more sense.
That would be great, and I'll probably try to do that. But the seller seems a) pretty set on his price, b) convinced the slides are actually fine and just need lube. He supposedly has someone else coming to look at it tomorrow, so I'll probably be back in touch on Sunday to see how that went and see if he is interested in adjusting the price to a level more appropriate for the condition of the box.

How bad are the dents and where are they at?
Most were smaller than a quarter and not deep at all; these were found on the back and sides. I'm not sure how many there were, maybe 15ish? There was also at least one more significant dent where it looks like a door handle had been opened into the box; my wife actually noticed this one, and I'm not sure where it was (but it wasn't on the front).

From what he said, he went and looked at it and it wasn't nearly as nice as in the pictures. Guy didn't want to deal at all either.

I wasn't trying to pawn it off on anyone, trust me. I'm sorry if it came across that way. I know that many people on here are interested in the box market and pricing, and I just thought it was still interesting that this guy still hasn't sold the box at that price, yet is unwilling to come down on price at all. That was my only intent.
Yeah, in some areas that's certainly true. If I still lived up in your area I would have grabbed a nice 67" Cornwell a few months ago. But down here in San Antonio and even Austin, deals are few and far between...I've been looking, trust me!
When you say deeper drawers, you mean deeper as opposed to taller, right? Because I like the short drawers -- most of my tools are pretty flat.
I am indeed still looking...every day I'm on CL, I've got my saved searches on eBay, etc.
