Matco digital torque wrench accuracy...

Any of you guys know what the accuracy of Matco's new electronic torque / angle wrench are?

I was talking to my Matco dealer about these the other day. He wasn't very fond of them and the reason being accuracy. He prefers the clicker type as do I.

Matco's clicker type aka Armstrong have an accuracy of 3%.

I'm embarrassed to admit I bought the 1/4" ETWA20FK last week and hadn't check and I could not find the accuracy listed anywhere in the manual. I was dissappointed to say that I bought it and then read the manual to find it was made in Taiwan, but it is a very high quality piece. I've only used for a water pump on a Toyota this far but am planning on getting the 3/8" and 1/2" if they are 2% in clockwise.

Snap-on's TechAngle is 2% clockwise and 3% counterclockwise, I would assume Matco is very similar.

I called my Matco dealer, when he took the torque wrench out of its case to enter the serial number in his computer he neglected to put the calibration sheet back in the case, I'll see him tomorrow morning and will get it from him then. He did report that it states 2% CE and 3% CCW, but according to calibration sheet my 1/4" is within 1% or less.

I sell a very high end brand of digital torque wrenches made in Taiwan that are very accurate: Eclatorq. This is MAC's digital torque wrench supplier. That stated I think the entire phobia about torque wrench accuracy is ludicrous. Thread condition, lubricant used and about fifty other factors play a far more critical role in how much the bolt stretches (this is what really matters) than whether your torque wrench is accurate to 1%, 3% or 5%. As Shakespeare once said: "Much ado about nothing."

True to a point, but like I've done with my golf clubs, my fishing rods & reels and more by buying the best I'm at least removing one variable and its then all operator error.

Grooveking, I'm curious why you bought the Matco instead of the Snap-on. The prices are similar I'm sure and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Matco costs more.

No Snap On dealer at present and I needed it. Snap On dealer was an assh*let so I kicked him out, he was a corporate employee, didn' t own the truck. He lost at least $6K a year with me alone, not to mention the other guys.

How long has that been true? In the past the Matco electronic wrenches were obviously re-branded Apex models.
