This is the case for alot of matco sockets that end in V, it stands for the ADV series. Also should be noted that they are pinned not the better style.

That's funny, the story I heard was that Matco wanted to buy Grey Pneumatic but, coulldn't so, Matco got Gearwrench impact sockets and branded them adv. :headscrat

They are the same company, so they are very possibly the same.
the story I heard was that matco wanted to introduce a bargain line(another, beside silver eagle) and grey pnuematic got upset and pulled out(because matco cut into there market)

on the other side of the coin (a positive import matco story) I have 1 set of the ADV sockets just some 12 points, and they have been good to me so far and the price was very right for off the truck

The pinless impact universals I believe are made by Armstrong. I don't have any Matco's to compare to my Armstrongs, but they're pretty much the only pinless one's i've ever seen, so unless they switch suppliers, I believe they'll remain US made forever.

Craftsman has them too. They all 3 have small differences. The collar on the matcos are smaller than the other too and the craftsman are shallower than the others.
