Matco locking pliers

Matco has a promo for a 10 pc locking pliers set is this a good deal, and has anyone ever used their locking pliers?

Anything you don't like?

They look like rebadged vice grips but I could be wrong.

I'd try to find out COO.

If they're made in Taiwan, then they're likely pretty decent and the price isn't too far off. (Compare to the Milwaukee branded locking pliers at Home Depot; Taiwanese and VERY nice for the money.)

The "Bremen" brand pliers at Harbor Freight are also Taiwan-made and quite nice, and look just like this.

I don't think they're European-made; Yurpian locking pliers usually look different than that.

If they're Chinese, then odds are they're just rebadged low-rent Vice Grip junk being sold at a premium, and are best avoided.

I talked to the matco guy yesterday. He has 5 sets coming in tomorrow. I told him to set one aside for me.

Pretty sure they're Taiwan. Defiantly not Irwin based on them being marked CR-V on the jaw. Wouldnt surprise me if Milwaukee locking pliers arent from the same factory.

My Matco guy had a pile of them for guys that had pre-ordered, at least 20 sets.

I’m guessing rebadged vice grips. The specifications tap says,

“Weight 8lb Type (Locking Pliers) Vise Grips”.

They don’t note that Vice Grips is a trademarked term but I don’t think they would use it without permission.

My boss has a set of Matco just like these and he really likes them, says the Matco guy will warranty them when/if the teeth get dull. After our Matco guy left I was checking them out and they're nice. Hes going to buy another set at that price as hes filling up a second box as hes got a buddy who pops in from time to time and on the weekends, and I might even buy my first tool off a truck (With cash of course) and get the set as well. 10 dollars a piece is pretty solid.

Likely just rebranded Vise-Grip Irwins, which I would pass on.... for Milwaukees.

I went ahead and ordered them, I felt they were a good deal. I don't have any locking pliers at all, so having these are better then nothing. I will let you all know how they are when they come in.

If they are Vice Grips you would be better off with Bremen from Harbor Freight

I've always thought that the best thing about those pliers set deals that most of the tool trucks feature, is the black nylon bag they come in.

Tekton's Taiwanese locking pliers are a great value.

Those are a good set for the price and are Asian make I think rebranding Irwin

My MAC bag needs a new zipper. Ditto on tekton, I've been happy with mine.

Matco are being pretty sneaky there though, they don't show the price of the item until you add it to the cart.

Thank you for the suggestion, I think I may send them back and get tekton because im not that impressed and these are China made. The entire reason I would go snap on or matco is for better quality and I'm just not feeling these.

Another brand I've been liking is strong hand. They have the reversed release and same knob as Milwaukee

I have a 7pc set, they came in a roll bag, not a zip bag.

They aren't rebranded Vise Grips, they are actually just Vice Grips in a Matco roll bag.

The grip-on style locking pliers are a lot easier to operate and work with.
