Matco Ratchets

I am just curious I have a few older Matco ratchets and I was just wondering does the 88 fit in the older heads. Example I have a CfR24LFT will the 88 internals fit in it?

I have a CFR24LFT that is 60 tooth.If they are 60 tooth they will fit in.I do not believe the older 36 tooth models will interchange though.

Is there a way to tell if its 36 or 60 besides taking it apart? Also Is there a known strength difference the Matco 88 and 60? I just got this ratchet used for 30 bucks and couldn't pass it up. I have not had the best of luck with the 88.

Count how many clicks it takes to make a 1/4" turn and multiply by 4.

Just count the clicks..I do not know that they made a 36 tooth 24" locking flex so it is probably 60.My 60 tooth is hell for stout,and is good for me.I don't have any 1/2 drive 88 tooth Matcos so I can't comment on their durability but my 3/8 88s are great..If it was me I'd use the 60 and see if it fails,I doubt it will.I don't think upgrading to the 88 is going to make it that much better.

I've got a CFR158, I think it's about the only 88T I haven't had to put a rebuild kit in, and I've yarded on that thing with a 3' cheater pipe a time or two.

I agree with DTB though, in 1/2", how often do you really need the finer teeth? Honestly, I hardly use mine as it is, which is about the only reason I don't own the 24" locking flex.

Thank you DTB I actually fell in love with my first Matco ratchet is was just like a SK with a smaller head but that was years ago. Since then it has all been Duel 80's except a long 3/8 that has been repairs twice and now this one. I am starting to jump back on the Matco band wagon since I picked up this hidden gem http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/ISA412/INPUT-SHAFT-ALIGNMENT-TOOL/ this thing has saved me from a ton of headaches. It works so well because of its simplicity.

I work on heavy equipment and class 8 so I use my 1/2" stuff quite often. I actually have been waiting on a 24" for some time from my SO guy so this find was just what I needed to keep my girlfriend from leaving me when she found out I bought another 200$ ratchet.

I use my impact about 95% of the time I'm using a 1/2" socket, which makes it hard to justify that $200 ratchet. But I'm pretty much always in a shop with air when I need to do heavy stuff, I'd be all over it if I did more field work.
