Hey guys Im looking at a Matco Spiderman tool box. 1st I was wondering if the spiderman part is a decal or paint? Id like to remove it. Also the guy wants $2K but, I think $1K is more reasonable. Here is a picture of the box and a link to the sale...

Sterff, I would have to guess decals, it would cost alot of $$$$$$$$$$ to paint that on a toolbox IMO opinion, I'm not sure about Matco production for those particular boxes.

I know one tool going in it, the red pistol grip.................you bastage......................LOL

it has formica plates glued to the front of it. I've removed them using a heat gun, then use a solvent to remove the residual glue. they usually come off with no issues.

that being said. that was a very popular box, I'm thinking the seller could get his asking price. I know a couple guys who would jump on that one.

Ok, so it sounds like it would be better to leave the Spiderman decal alone. So $2K is a reasonable price? Or should I look for a non Spiderman box lol.

Yeah Im not sure on this one. It's the kind of box I have been looking for but, Im kind of on the fence. The box will still hold tools with or without the spiderman decals :)

From what I've seen that's anywhere from an $800-$1,500 box most days. Personally I wouldn't want to spend any more than $1,200 and I wouldn't pay extra for Spiderman. :)

I paid $850 for mine last year. I bought it in near the same condition except for a dent front center bottom where it looks like it caught while being moved on/off a truck.

thats one of those specialty boxes made for a really specific customer. That hurts the resale value. $1500 would be fair imo

I would leave the spiderman on there, it looks really cool. Decals won't let make me buy or not buy a box, certainly won't pay extra for them. But like myself I put stickers all over mine from the different ships I work on. So it kinda makes a conversation piece as well as tool storage.

While Spiderman doesn't quite do it for me, I have seen a few of the black 'Ghost Rider' boxes and have to admit I was tempted. It's too bad they were priced way outta my range and smaller than I wanted or I would have picked one of them up. I don't dig most of the special edition boxes, but that one was pretty cool.

I can normally buy that box (without the decal) in the 600-800 dollar range. I may give 500 for a Spiderman box. When it comes to toolboxes it seems plain Jane brings the money the fastest on resale. You have to find a Spiderman fan to pay the bucks for that box. Not many 13 year old techs out there willing to sell their Play station, BMX bike, skateboard and laptop to get it.

I would think someone interested in that box would want the Spiderman on it. The resale will suffer if you remove it. .02

+1 If you really don't like the Spiderman theme, I'd look for another box.

$2000 to $1200 is a big price drop....40%...and looking at the pictures, that box is in real nice shape. Offer what you're comfortable with, but it sounds like he's not going to go all that low. I know if I was selling it, I wouldn't go far off that price b/c I'd figure I could get it or close to it.

If I were to spend close to $2K I would rather just buy a brand new 72" Montezuma box.

i've felt the same way about all the raving on here with regards to pink tools but i keep my opinions to myself.

Spiderman has been around since the 60s so i dont see why appeal has to be limited to young teens [who probably dont even know what a comic is].

Its pop culture, and is really no different than having some nascar driver on your box.

Matco makes lots of cool artist boxes. Here is a Coop:

...And a Rat Fink from Ed Roth

To the poster with the American idiot comment. You should thank your lucky stars that you live in this great country where people can get any art they would like on their $2,000 tool box. Jackass.

I like theme boxes. I'm glad I finally picked up a nice used SO bel air box.

The car themed ones...like the '57 Bel Air, Camaro, Mustang boxes...I like all those b/c they're tasteful and look good and could see buying one. The other ones...Rat Fink, camoflauge, etc...not my taste at all.

But isn't choice great?!

To the OP:

Here's my humble opinion. Offer the seller what you feel is a fair price to pay for that box. If that number is $1200 then offer that. If the seller doesn't want to accept the offer, walk away and look for another box.

As far as the Spiderman graphics. If you buy the box and don't like the graphics, remove them. Don't worry about what everyone else thinks; if you don't like the graphics, get rid of them.

This would be what I would do if in your situation.

I dont own a theme box but they're kinda cool I suppose. Seems a shame to buy a Spiderman box only to de-theme it, limiting an already limited production, taking away a chance, if you will for some fan to own it.

Never seen the speedracer[who's box] I like it, watched that show everyday when I was a pup.

Never seen the spidey box either. Did anyone do a Superman?
