I know there have been many complaints about the divider in the top drawer of Matco's toolboxes. Matco is going to stop making them with the divider. I thought y'all might want to know. Here's a copy of the e-mail announcement.

The Problem:Distributors said: “Having the Drawer Divider in Matco’s long top drawers limits our customers
flexibility when loading their drawers with tools.
The Solution:By improving the design of the long top drawer bottom braces, we were able to give your
customer more storage flexibility, but keep the same strength, durability and functionality your
customer has come to expect from a Matco toolbox. The new long top drawer design has
been thoroughly tested and meets or exceeds the performance of the old design.
The Challenge:The drawer divider is not just an organizational tool, it adds strength to Matco’s long top
drawers. Matco is not willing to compromise on strength, durability or functionality so the
drawers would have to be re-designed.
What to expect:ALL Matco Rollaway’s built after December 31st, 2010 will include the new long top drawer
design with no divider.

Glad to hear, I was really taken back to notice that divider when my tool box was delivered. I've actually turned it into a pretty useful tool organizer though, to the point that I actually like it.

To me it renders the long drawer useless for what the long drawer is suppose to be for. Funny thing is MAC can build one damn damn near 6 feet long and can hold at least 600 lbs. That pretty much tells you the quality of matco boxes. Maybe they need a lesson from Snap-On in the form of a KRL1032

daveblank - Thanks for posting this update. Will the new drawer be shallower to allow more room for bracing on the bottom? I would think it would, you might not know until you get one...

 Thanks for posting this, Dave. We appreciate the news.

Can you say anything about a possible retrofit kit or new style drawer for older roll cabs? I'd be curious about that as well......:bounce:

There is already bracing on the bottom of the drawer. I can only assume that they just re-designed & re-positioned it's placing. I highly doubt that they changed the whole box to change the design of 1 drawer. Unfortunately, the toolbox plant & the people that will know are off work till Jan. 3. I can check then, but my guess is that a simple drawer swap is all that is needed.

I just got off of the phone with the tool box plant. The drawer is a direct replacement for the original design. The box is unchanged.

corrected you on the model # krl1033. love my krl1033 super box. there is nothin like opening a 6ft drawer and seeing your 5 and 1/2 ft prybar inside. no need to leave it out were people can get to it. :bounce:
