I'm curious to see if anyone has had experience with both the snap on and matco electric 1/2 torque wrench. I'm looking at getting one and I have the matco student discount so its quite a bit less but I also don't want to buy it if its not any good. any input is appreciated.

One pro for the SO is the fine tooth action. as far as i know matco is not fine tooth but you may have to look at that a little closer to make sure. just like with regular ratchets, clearance is everything.

S O sells much better used than matco, later you will get more than you $60 back. Used mat sells for about used c-man price. S-k makes a nice one too.

For me snappy is the only way to go with a digital. Now if we where talking normal clickers, I own both and are a horse a pieces.

The snap on vibrates as well as beeps when you reach your goal, the matco only beeps. Also the snap on just feels a little nicer and more refined. I have the SO and another guy at the shop has the matco, every time he uses his he makes a statement about how he should have spent the extra $$.

The snap on wrench has a much better ratchet head on it, I would go with that over the coarse teardrop ratchet head on the matco one. Ive never been a fan of ratchets with a thin cover and snap ring.

Just bought a Snap On tech angle. Looked and felt good but still unused under my bed waiting for the machine shop to finish my heads and block.

Matco has finer heads..All the matco heads have more teeth, like double. I had both at the same time and Matco seemed like a better tool to me. Better quality and feel. I like the Matco click when it reaches the torque setting. I sold snap-on.

I hate digital torque wrenches. I feel like they take longer to set, they shut off unexpectedly, or the damn batteries die. I wasnt impressed with the 1/2" Snap On, and I like their ratchets. Get a clicker.

The SO tech angles were upgraded to dual 80s a while ago, yes early ones were 36 tooth. So as long as the matco torque wrench has a true matco head, at best it has 8 more teeth.

pretty sure the matco digital torque wrench is same as kd and gearwrench. they all look the exact same and you just pay a pile more for nothing better from matco. had a gearwrench one and traded for snap on. like it much better. better head and the vibrate is much nicer when you can't see the lights or display.

Have both the 1st gen techangles. 36tooth model. Love them both. Great for torque to yield bolts. I have the new mac angle digital torque wrench here at home. Dont really like it to much. But i got it brand new for a song and it works so not complaining. In my honest opinion go for the new snapon tech angle. You wont regret it. My older 1/2 36tooth tech angle is gonna get traded in pretty soon for the new model.

The benefit to digital for me is the angle function. A lot more bolts are TTY today than they were 15 years ago. Scale switching is also welcomed.
