I can't say anything good or bad about the Matco impact as I've never used it, but I love my Snap-On 1/2". It has survived heavy home use and pro use when I don't feel like grabbing an air hose for 3 years without a single problem. I still get surprised with it's power. The 3/8" is great too, and IMO much more useful if you also have access to a 1/2" air gun.

I have Snap-On's in 3/8 and 1/2, and love them both. They haven't come across a bolt yet I couldn't remove on a car.

for what its worth I have Milwaukee impacts in all sizes and they have removed everything I've come across. Much cheaper than the SO's as well. I got the 1/2 and 3/8 with charger, batteries and 18v flashlight new from Amazon for less than the price of the SO 1/2. Not saying the Milwaukee's are better, just another cheaper option.

Which impact do you have that's struggling? Since I got my 1/2" drive SO gun, I've forgotten all about my breaker bar. Axle nuts and large suspension bolts comes off easily. The last time I used a breaker bar was to turn the crank to check my timing, but that's about it.

There are a lot of "midsize" fasteners the 3/8 milwaukee won't handle. In the 15-19mm category. (or SAE equivalent) Not necessarily rusty either.

I recall using one (M18 3/8) on some 5/8" headed bolts and it would just rattle and make a lot of noise. On a lot of the smaller 10-14mm bolts it worked great. A contractor chuckled and said he had something. He pulled out the snap on 3/8 14.4v and it blasted them all off w/o hardly any racket.

I don't like the price, but if I am going to spend "significant" amount of money for either of them, it better be as useful as possible. As of yet I have not made the purchase, I think I will snipe a "gently used" one or one with bad battery packs.

The 3/8" milwaukee is nothing to rave about, but their 1/2" is definitely a winner and it has more balls than most other cordless impacts. I'd rate it just a hair less than the SO CT6850/6855 when it comes to power, but in return it's more compact and lighter. Wish I hadn't sold mine!!

I've used them both and the Matco was more powerful than the Snap On, that's why I bought the Matco.

Drive size? Part number? price?

I am heading off to their site now, to check it out, but want to make sure what ever I see is the same as you bought. Then maybe I will be able to find a matco dealer that can demo it.

If you want to wait until January, Ingersoll-Rand is coming out with their new W7150 1/2" cordless impact. 20v, 1100ft.lb. breakaway torque, 780ft.lb. working torque. No idea about price yet or accessory options, but boy oh boy do I want one.

I'm using a really old craftsman pro gun. dang thing seems to just waste air more than anything else.

While this thread is about cordless, feel free to blame much of your issues on inadequate air supply. Just a guess, but my guess is small air hose+restrictive fittings+too small compressor+too low psi?

Well i brought up the breaker bar thing because most of the impacts (cordless included) I've used, in the end, required a breaker bar. I'm guessing my standards of tools i also a lot lower than most peoples though.

Cordless gun i've used was some sort of Bosch I picked up from a "recovery" company, worked well for most stuff but found the battery thing limiting; I'm assuming it was on its last leg because a charge was only good for about 20-25 minutes of actual use.

The Snap On was their 14.4 volt 3/8" drive unit, it was a demo model the dealer let me use for a week. The Matco is this one:

Matco just had a deal on them, and the dealer who it trying to win me over took another $40 off of it beyond the sale price.

I have both brands the 3/8" Matco 14.4 Infinium and the 3/8" Snap-on 14.4 impacts. Both have good features. While the Snap-on is a bit more powerful, but not by much, the Matco is much more compact and can fit into a few more areas.

You cannot go wrong with either one. The Matco has a definite battery edge over the Snap-on. It holds its charge longer and the Lithium Ion also has a greater life span. On the other hand, you get 2 Snap-on batteries. So yes, either one is a great investment.

i've got the 3/8 on order from my matco guy. as soon as i get a chance to use it some, i'll let you guys know how it does. all i've ever heard about cordless impacts is snapon snapon snapon, which must mean something seeing how a lot of people preach it. but idk, i've looked up the specs for both 3/8 and 1/2 and both of matco's are supposed to put out more. everybody at work has snapon cordles impacts but i think im going with matco instead. i've read a lot of reviews of guys selling their snapons after using matco guns.

had my CT6850 1yr 3mo. It lost all of its power. After paying $569 to buy it, now they are making me pay another $100 flat rate fee to repair when its just 3months out of warranty. I have been a life long loyal snap on customer, but after being treated like this, I'm done with them.

This is the third place I've seen you post the exact same words on this forum. I'm not suggesting that this is what you're doing but it gives the appearance that with only 12 posts and at least 3 of them being cut and paste duplicates that you might have an agenda and just want to bash Snap On. You even resurrected a couple of older threads to make these posts. It's certainly reasonable to express dissatisfaction with a tool but when it looks like that's all you're doing it takes away from the discussion.
