Anyone on here ever asked for materials for a shop project as a Christmas gift? I'm mostly set for tools, save for large equipment/tools, and I don't exactly have the floor space for the large tools/equip I wish to acquire, as I'm still renting. My suggestion has been for the family to go in on some materials (aluminum angle) for a project I'm working on. My thought is it's not overly expensive, and it will certainly be used?

And go.

Good luck. Do they have to go to a steel plant? If they can order and have it delivered then you should give that to them.
You might find people want to give conventional underwear gifts instead

I think they would understand if they were realistic and knew you would build your desired projects. Obviously send them build photos as you progress so they understand.

Can you provide clear instructions on what you want and where to buy it? Maybe a heads up to the metal supplier that you grandmother going to be calling in an order?

Of course the others gotta buy you the sixth bag of socks to stick in the drawer.

I don't like giving or receiving any gifts that require specific instructions. My wife and I rarely exchange gifts anymore. She likes it when I buy her something nice in the middle of the year because she wants it (but doesn't expect it).

Seems risky.

I wouldn't trust ANYBODY except maybe my pop to get the right stuff. Even if I wrote it down.

You are gonna end up with a couple 4' sticks of that stuff they sell a homies and a cheap flashlight.
