Hi i am new to the garage journal. I am going to build a new 30 by 40 by 12 pole barn this spring, and i am having a tough time making a decision on a couple of things. First of all the overhead door size. I plan on putting two 10 by 10 or 12 by 10 doors on the gable end and just don't know whether its worth the extra money for the 12 foot wide doors and whether there going to need commercial door openers. Secondly to save some money on concrete costs should i prep the site myself and just have someone come in and pour it and do the flatwork. Or if anybody else from Michigan has any referrals to do the concrete work. I live about 20 miles east of lansing.

Hey Matt,
Welcome to the GJ! The only person that can justify the extra cost is you. Just keep in mind that down the road, IF you think a 12 will be needed, do it know because it will be cheaper in the long run. Do one of each... I doubt they will require a commecial door opener. I've had a 7 x 18 running on a Sears home unit for 17 years with no issues and that weighs more than what you are looking at.
As far as your concrete goes the prep ie 90% of the job. The best thing you can do is talk to a few contractors and get some recommendations.
I am not to far from you, I am in Byron.

You need to go and watch a job that size being prepped. Seriously it takes a crew. Unless you mean the spring in 2014. :)
