Matting under Racedeck

I thought I have read hear about putting some kind of matting under racedeck to reduce the clacking sounds ? But I want to be sure it is resitant to mold and mildew. any suggestions ? Thanks

So even if there is a liner underneath a Racedeck tile floor and I spilled oil or chemical on the floor, wouldn't it get trapped under the tiles? Unless one peeled up the floor on occasion and potentially clean or replaced the liner, it would be a trapped mess.

I have Racedesk tiles, but I don't have the freeflow tiles. If I spill something I just wipe it up right away with paper towels and it has never been a problem. If you have freeflow tiles anything spilled on the floor will go thru the tiles and run underneath the tiles toward the drain.

With free flow or our ribbed tiles, you clean right through them With solid tiles, if you managed to get something underneath, you might have to take a couple out and clean it.

I've been doing this since 2001.... I can count on one hand the number of people who have done that -- and still have fingers left

I will say you REALLY need to use a product like TrueLock B4 if your floor has never been sealed.

One caution I would like to point out. We have noticed a couple interlocking tile vendors (none I'm aware of on this forum) that are starting to recommend thin mil recycled rubber sheeting to silence any possible tile noise. We don't recommend this as the rubber sheeting will not breath and can lead to mold and mildew issues if water gets under the sheeting or the garage has moisture issues to begin with.

With the exception to self-draining tread surfaces, it will also interfere with air circulation as well. The tile can form indentations in the rubber that the tile will sit in, effectively restricting the flow of air.

Synthetic landscape fabric breaths, dries quickly, and allows for air circulation under the tiles.

In my old house, I had synthetic weed blocker fabric underneath my tiles for the clacking sound. 4 years later I pulled up the tiles and found lots of beetles and other insects that had somehow crawled underneath the fabric and gotten stuck there. In my new house (now), I decided not to put the fabric. To be honest, I can't tell a difference.

Seems to me considering the high cost of Racedeck, or who-ever's tile floor, the last thing I'd want to do is put down liners, pull up tiles for cleaning spills or dead bugs over time. Sounds like a long term hassle.

I've had my Racedeck floor (freeflow) for a year now and have never had any clacking. I would not put any type of liner underneath...it's not needed.
