So I finally got some clarification from the zoning office on my build.

I needed clarification on this

15’ max height (grade t0 mid-line of roof)

They sent back this pic.

I still have people telling me 15' is at the peak, but I don't see it that way in the pic. Why can't they just tell you the max height at the peak?

I agree that the diagram shows 1/2 of the roof height. It seems a rather odd way to designate it though. I'd expect it to show "H" as a dimension at the peak/highest point regardless of roof type (hip, gambrel, etc.)

Thats how my township zoning works also. Max height is to halfway up the roof.

Kind of confusing, but I guess it gives you some flexibility on the roof/truss style, and pitch, to accomplish your building design goals without allowing a monstrosity in the neighborhood.

If they sent you that pic, and the way you are explaining it, it is NOT 15' to the peak of the building. For any normal structure, your max peak would probably be about 20', I'm guessing.

Because the '15' to the middle of roof' will fluctuate with the pitch of the roof. On a 3/12 pitch you will be able to build a much taller side wall.
