I have looked here for hoists for short garages and is seems like these are the 2 best options I can find I prefer the max jack seems like it would do better even if it cost a little bit more but are there any others I should look at? My garage ceiling height is 9ft and I am going to put it over on the side without a garage door opener so I won't have to worry about clearing that. I will be using it so do mechanical work no body work and advice before I buy one would be great. Thanks

If you have the width to walk around the posts and you work on a mix of different vehicles the twin posts are nicer for general and under car work. For a small width space and generally smaller uni body cars a twin pad scissor lift is nicer IMHO. Friend of mine has a full size twin post lift in a single stall garage. It ***** to have to constantly weave around the posts.

Think about how much time you will actually be using it to raise a car versus how often it will be in your way, something you need to walk around, or bump into. I think the MaxJax is great, but in a small garage, a two post lift is a pretty serious space commitment. Imagine adding two work benches, right where you open your car doors. A scissors lift has drawbacks for-middle-of-the-belly access. But two-post lifts have drawbacks with space consumption, even more so if they're in an actively-used parking space.
