Looking back through an old Mac catalog where they give both and it's not making any sense to me.
For example, they list the AW480Q 1/2" impact as 200-800 ft. lbs. of working torque, yet list max. forward and reverse torque as 600. And, in the description, they say it's the highest-rated impact on the market (in 2006), yet directly below it is the AW5500, which has a torque range of 50-450 ft. lbs., a max. forward torque of 500 ft. lbs. and a max. breakaway torque of 1000 ft. lbs.

Color me confused.
