I thought I saw a similar thread on this forum awhile ago, but can't find it again using the "typical" search terms, so forgive me if this is a rehash.
I'm building a 28ft x 30ft garage with a 10ft ceiling, and am trying to maximize lift height. I'll be doing things like using flush mounted lighting to help.
The loss of gantry lift height imposed by a trolley and winch and/or chain fall is significant.
Although I don't remember ever seeing such a thing, I'm wondering if there's any practical way to attach a winch to the uprights of a gantry crane, with the cable going up and over through pulley's, and dropping down mid-beam in order to maximize lift height.
I suspect such an arrangement could compromize lift capacity, but I only need 1 ton or so.
Can anyone either point me to the original thread or offer some ideas?
