Hi,
I started reading through all of the MaxJax posts but there were too many to readily find what I'm looking for so I hope someone can provide a quick answer to my question.

My smallest vehicle is a BMW 3 series and my largest is an F150 pickup. Looking at the installation manual it looks like a good compromise would be 115" between the outside edges of the base plates. On the other hand the manual also mentions setting up more than one location.

So given these two vehicle sizes what are your thoughts on one location or two and what their respective spacing should be?

Thank you,

Go wider. I am at 130" and have lifted the following:

2006 C6 Corvette
2008 Mazda3 5 door
2006 Honda Pilot
2004 BMW M3 (E46 series)

You can also do extra sets to have different spacing. I had to pick a single spacing in my garage due to tensioning cables. I needed 130" for the Corvette. For all the other cars I have had to extend the arms much so I really don't see what would fit at 115" other than something very narrow.

Best solution is to get the Max Jax and position it for both vehicles before you drill any holes. If both vehicles have the lift points at the sills, you might be able to get away with a standard width keeping the arms non extended for the truck and extended for the car.

I have an E36 328i and an E46 M3. The narrowest position I could use was 124". With this distance, I could lift both cars using the factory lift points and the arms are fully retracted.

Depending on what 3 series you have, 115" might be too narrow.

Thanks for the replies. I'll measure out the 130" and see if it my E92 will make it.

I've seen two MaxJax installs of owners who own a Porsche 993.

One set his at 120" and the other set his at 132" (to the outside edges of the column plates).

I chose to go with a 130" set-up after lifting the car and marking how far out the extendable arms were with the 993 on the lift; they were half way out in their travel range.

For reference, the lift/jack points are 53" apart at the front, 50" apart at the rear and 49" from front to rear.
