MaxJax cylinder removal

Hi all, I tried searching and could not find a definitive answer.

I've had my MaxJax for about 10 years now and the cylinders are finally leaking. I want to remove them and have them rebuilt at Hydraulic Supply store.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it. I wish I could remove the bolts and studs holding the posts but I had to epoxy those suckers in there when I was installing the lift. Short of cutting them all out, they are not going to move.

Could I remove the cylinder through the top? Has anyone done this? Looks like I might be able to remove the arms and slide the lift head all the way out the top and get to the cylinders that way. Making sure that is feasible before I start sweating!

Thanks in advance

Mine has started leaking on one side after 8 years. You epoxied the bolts into the concrete inserts? Yikes!

See page 12 of the manual for reference. I had to remove mine to rebuild and I recall doing something like the following.

1. Remove arms
2. Remove hose
3. Lift carrier (lift head) as high as you can go without it coming out of the top of the column. I think held it with my shoulder.
4. Lift the cylinder up and slide it out of the bottom.
5. Lower carrier back down.

No need to unbolt the column from the floor.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for posting that! So the carrier is the housing that the arms attach to and the cylinder housing correct?

Had a little time yesterday and decided to tackle this. It was much easier than I thought. Easier to do with two people but I was able to do it with some use ratchet straps. I just had to turn one of the fittings about 45* to get the cylinder to slide out. Took less than hour to do both sides.

Thanks @skamp for the confirmation.
