MaxJax motorcycle lift hitting exhaust

so Just got my first bike, a 99 harley sportster, and I wanted to throw it up on my maxjax (I was an early buyer so it's the original maxjax prior to any revisions) to assist in doing some basic maintenance.

I put on the motorcycle adapter, lined up the bike, and noticed that it'd hit the exhaust if i were to lift the bike with the maxjax. Am I doing something wrong?

No one else has experienced this? I've never used a motorcycle lift before. I guess i'll cut some 2x4s to hit the frame but clear the exhaust.

This maxjack motorcycle adapter?

FWIW, I use scrap 2x4's to get the kind of clearance you're describing too.

Yeah, i used some scrap 2x6 i had laying around, It was not ideal though, I need to route some channels in it. There are 2 protrusions on the bottom of the frame that the bike was rocking on.

Some tie down straps helped take up the slack though and kept the bike stable enough to do what I had to.
