Maxjax Piston Clearance

Hi All,
I'm a newbie here but have picked up some great info (installing a G73 heater soon). So thanks for that.

I've recently installed a maxjax (bought on my own-was not aware of group buy ). I seem to be having a problem with the cylinder clearing the tie bar at the top of the column. I wasn't paying attention on my first test lift and ended up bending one of the tie bars into an arch. I thought it might have been because of off center lifting but now realize it was due to the cylinder making contact. I fashioned a new tie bar out of thicker plate steel but wondering if I have a defective unit or perhaps the trolleys need to be removed and the slider blocks reversed so my cylinder rides more centered in the post? Any thoughts/comments appreciated. I tried to contact Danmar for support, but of course, its the weekend

The new tiebar have a 3/4" (approx) spacer welded to each end to move the tiebar outward from the lift to avoid just what happened to you. Contact Maxjax and I'm sure they will send you two new style tiebars.

I had the exact same thing happen. I contacted Dannmar and they acknowledged my email but never responded again, so don't count on getting the new style tiebars out of them as replacements. I picked up a piece of flat steel bar at Home Depot and made a replacement tie bar pretty easily for just a few bucks. I also moved the cylinder around a little to avoid the tiebar since it has some play and it clears better but I basically just keep a close eye on it while going up. Still, I love the lift and use it all the time.

Hi All,
I spoke to Gabe today and he is hooking me up with the updated tie bars. I'll report back after I get them and install. So far, I'm happy with Danmar's customer service and the info I am getting from the rest of the folks on this forum. Thanks!

BTW, I've temporarily rigged up my Dayton G73...I gotta say I love this heater. I turned it on two dots above low half an hour ago and my garage is about 60deg (its about 25deg outside)...nice! Time to go get some work done! ;-)

Update: I received the new offset tie bars and installed them last night. They work great and provide more clearance for the piston to travel up and down. I'm quite happy with the results and encourage anyone who has this issue to contact Gabe at Danmar for a fixup. Thanks Gabe!

Now it's time to get back to work tearing down the Cobra!

Thanks, Gabe! I received the updated tie bars for my Max Jax this week. That's pretty darn good customer service. I appreciate it and it certainly reinforces my original decision to buy a Max Jax.

I've had my lift for about eight months and put everything up on it from our little BMW 325 to our 4x4 Suburban, and other than the minor tie bar issue, I haven't had a problem at all.
