Anyone have anything negative to say about the Dannmar MaxJax (screenshot attached)?

I love the flexibility of removing one (or both) posts when I'm not doing auto maintenance (which isn't very often and is always of short duration).

I'm ok with 4' lift height too (I have 10'-14' ceiling and don't need to stand to change fluids, rotate tires, change brake pads, etc.

Theres tons of posts about that unit here. I don't really recall any negative posts. If the ability to move the posts when not using them is what you want then I don't think you can go wrong with this unit. I'd look into the Grand Prix, you could fit it in your 10'14" ceiling and get more clearance under your vehicles, but you wouldn't be able to move the posts after installed.

Tons of info on this forum about MaxJax. A quick search should give you hours of reading.

It seems lately the MaxJax has been suffering from quality control issues. I purchased mine April of last year and haven't had any issues. It's been great. If I had a 14 foot ceiling, I wouldn't have bought a MaxJax, though. There are plenty of full sized lifts for comparable money.

yes, they did a batch of posts with a rough powder coat finish on the inside (where the arms move up and down) and it caused them to stick coming down. My buddy bought one a few months ago and has had this issue. However, they've decided to make it right and are shipping him two new posts that have a new slick finish on them, which should take care of the issue.

Take a look at c7000 Triumph. It's great and very similar but a little better.

I have had one for almost 10 years now and it was one of the BEST tools I have ever bought. I have not had one problem with mine.

Skip the MaxJax and go with the M6, which is a newer version. It's has auto locking step feature and is ALI certified (MaxJax isn't).

I looked into the C7000, but I got the impression the company backing the unit runs on a shoe string budget. Also, the lift doesn't have ALI certification and it cost more.

I considered the MaxJax briefly... because it didn't have the columns connected by cables or crossbar. But the rating was lower than I wanted.

After looking at used stuff for a while, there's still some heavier models that only have hyd & air connections between columns. (Basically Mohawk and a few copies.) Got a 9k# one for about a third of the price of a new MaxJax. Still setting it up, along with the rest of the shop.

^^^ Higher load capacity would help depending on the vehicle involved, but the 6k is enough for majority of passenger cars.

The niche serviced by MaxJax/M6 and C7000 is portability. If one has height and room for a permanent install, that opens doors to many other options.

I've had a few issues. Control unit has always had a slow leak. I haven't had time to troubleshoot it. Length isn't enough for all my cars (clearly spec'ed; I knew this going in). I once had an issue where it didn't go up evenly and only latched on 1 side, though I didn't know it had latched since the side nearest me wasn't latched, and when I brought it down, it came down unevenly so I stopped. I had to raise it a bit to unlatch the latched side, and when I did, the high side raised up but the low side did not, and the car got unballanced and fell off.

I guess that's the kicker. Everything I have is a fullsize truck - or the gf's lifted 4dr Jeep.

Still, the lighter lift should do most of the other 2-post tricks - like lifting campers, cabs, pickup boxes, etc.

The heaviest car I lift with the MaxJax is an 4.2, Audi Q7. 5,250lbs. No problems. If you have a high enough ceiling to go full height, AND don't need to move a column, AND have a vehicle that weighs more than 6,000lbs, I would go with something else. If not, the MaxJax works great.

My buddy received the new columns for his M6 MaxJax and got them installed last Sat - the good news is they work perfectly, now the cars go up and down smoothly, evenly and the latches engage almost at the same time. He can finally use it and feel safe under it. They didn't even want the old columns back. I'm glad they supported the purchase and stood behind it, but they should not have shipped it with those columns in the first place.

I'd urge anyone buying one of these to check the finish on the inside of the posts, if it's not slick and shiny, don't bother to put it together. Either sand it off clean or get them to send new columns.

^^^ Excellent news. My replacement columns are on their way too.

**Alert**: I suspect they are not going to want my original uprights, so I would give them to anyone interested...lmk. The textured paint would need to be addressed on the inside, but with that done, a MaxJax user would gain the option to have auto lock step feature. Due to size weight, probably makes most sense for someone within driving distance to NJ.

The only difference on the new columns is the paint is smoother?

Where roughly are you in NJ?

Also, where is everyone buying them from?

My buddy bought his direct from Danmar.

You would also need all the parts that make the latches work. The columns are made differently than the early 2 pin hole ones as they have the mechanism for the autolatch.

Only difference I could see between the ones he received is the finish is smooth and shiny, and the matt finish is just that, and has a lot of texture to it. That texture is what causes the problem....unlike some two post lifts that have rollers, the Max Jax has slides, with the weight of the vehicle on the arms they get hung up due to the texture of the finish....the slides................don't!

They don't want his old columns back, so I think he's going to sell/give them to a metal scrapper. Too bad too as all that's wrong is the finish inside the columns.
