So I bought a stubby snap-on ratcheting screwdriver, didnt ask the price, just said I wanted it, and wanted to get off the tool truck. Checked my receipt after he left and it was $60. I didnt mind paying that much, but now I looked on SO website and the same one is only $40.95.:headscrat
So, my question is, should there be THAT much of a price difference? My matco truck guy is amazing, and actually sells me stuff cheaper than I find online usually.
Whats the deal

The dealer can set what ever price that he wants, that's what happens when you don't do your homework before hand.

well I guess I will stop buying from him like I have noticed everyone else in my shop has. He used to come around once a month, but since he found out I started full time now he has been coming weekly. I had a great relationship with my tech school truck guy and got most of my tools from him at the student discount rate.
The other funny thing is a coworker of mine bought a new bluepoint 1/4" air ratchet, after using it a couple it would slip and make terrible noise. He told the SO guy who then told him he would exchange it if he wanted an upgrade, otherwise he would have to deal with it through snap on. When the matco truck came this week he traded it to him for a nice IR one. We love our Matco guy, hes a genuine person, not just someone trying to rip us off.
Thanks for the answers guys/gals

Are you saying that the Snap On guy wouldn't honor a warranty even though your coworker was spending money with him??

If so, screw that tool guy, he should get tossed out of the shop, and told not to come back, the Effin' scum bag.

Prices on the truck should be 30% less then the site as per standard retail practice. list price is only charged by the manufacturer to ensure fair practice to dealers. dealers who charge list or above a greedy SOB's whom are afraid to actually put in the work needed to make a living. plenty of specially retail ( the market segment for tool trucks) thrive on making between 30-40% margin on most of their goods ( supporting goods are almost always at keystone 50-60 % margin)

If a distributor sold everything at 30% off list he wouldn't make any money. It has beed discussed here many times that the average profit margin is 30-40%.
