Maybe a suggestion on installing light

I have an old house that had a heater-fan-light installed in my bathroom. It has not been used in years so I removed it. The metal housing is still in the ceiling. It measures 13 inches where the hole was cut. I would like to just install a light fixture and not remove the metal housing. I enclosed a picture of what it looks like. I have the heater wires disconnected at the switch on wall and installed a plate and blank where the switch was. I have a Commercial Electric model T67 my wife bought at Home Depot a while back. I also have a 16 inch molded medallion but so far I have not figured out how to install this in this large hole. Td

Why not replace with another fan?

Does your new light have the metal bridge to install it with? you might have to make a piece of metal that would run across the fan to mount the bridge to, to mount/install new light? another option would be find a ceiling light that has a base bigger than the fan opening and use toggle bolts ect in drywall to mount the new fixture.

In Edit: they have a fan/light combo that would cover that hole (Cut the old fan out and install new one), look at Lowes or HD

Is your intention to power the fixture with the old existing heater wiring?

No, I removed the heater-fan and now only want to install a new light. I am starting to think it may be to much trouble. I may just cover the hole and let it go. If I can figure out a way in the next few days I will install the light. I just do not want the heater /fan anymore, only the light. Thanks

You'll have to remove the old can to run new wires anyway, so run wires - install hanger bar like DC73 posted - Glue medallion to ceiling - attach fixture to junction box as pictured on the T67 box.

The wires are stuck through enough where I would not have to remove the old can. I would have to remove the can if I install what was suggested. I will look into removing it though. Another good tip so thanks a lot. Tom

If you use the old heater wiring for the light fixture, make sure it's 120V.

Just cut the old one out,install new box and fix the Sheetrock,it's not that much more work then trying to rig a box into that can

I checked the wires I am going to use and they are 110 volts. The other two probably are 220 volts but I have them disconnected at the switch. Thanks for safety tip though. Never can be to safe I am putting this on hold until I decide 100% what I am going to do. Good tips here. Tom

Got the shorter brace and mounting box at Home Depot. I left the metal housing in place and just drilled two holes to install the brace. Piece of cake. Thanks for all the tips.
