Maybe I'll Be A Snap-On Toolbox Owner?

A somewhat vintage looking Snappy box might be available for me to purchase. I'm told that it's a model KR7100C. I'm totally clueless about it.

A few questions for the experts please. Any pros or cons about this particular model? What's the approximate vintage? Is this a popular or sought after model? What would be a fair and reasonable offer be for one in nice condition?

Ah, that's the old bodyman's toolbox. Was made for bodyshop work. Snappy made those back in the '80s I believe.

That's a nice looking "tall" box. I'm curious as to why it would be a "bodyman's" box. I assume it has something to do with the door on the left and the door at the top.

Buy it. I have no idea on cost but anything under $1000 would be well bought in my opinion.

That's a pretty neat box with great storage, I almost bought one but the size and weight was a bit more than I wanted. I think the one I looked at had all ball bearing drawer slides. If it was modular I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I vote yes on the design. I like the integrated bulk storage in a small package. For a small shop or garage this would be great. I'd trade my top and bottom single bank for that in a heartbeat.

My boss has one of these that he bought new. Its a pretty good layout actually. Built in prybar/long tool storage in the tall door, one drawer had a writing surface that flips up, the hutch area is kinda high for my taste but could be useful for storage of rally bulky items (he has a 3 drawer unit in his) the locker area holds a lot of **** due to its depth. I like it though the only downfall is that the only full width drawer is all the way at the bottom. Aside form that it is a surprisingly useful layout. As far as I know these were only made with ball bearing slides.

Bottom line, if the price is within your range I'd go for it. The last one I saw in the Chicago area on CL was over 6 months ago priced at 2000, it re-posted once and then after 2 days I never saw it again.

Well, I went to look at this box today. First impression...it is BIG!!..as in tall. The height was a big negative for me though. I had the impression that it could get dangerously top heavy when loaded up.

Aside from some paint shade differences from where some stickers had been removed, the overall condition appeared to be pretty nice.

All of the drawers had bearing slide rails, but the bottom drawers did not have double slide rails like I've seen on some newer Snappy boxes.

The configuration set-up also seemed a bit odd. However, there did appear to be a lot of overall useful storage space.

I was shot down pretty much immediately with my offer of $850.00. The owner thinks it should be worth somewhere between $1500.00 and $1800.00.

Hopefully, he gets what he thinks its worth....I just didn't see it...

After the awfully short negotiation talks fell through, my eyes were drawn towards a little stack of metal boxes on the floor. We were able to come to terms on those.

So today, I'm still not an owner of a Snap-On roll-away tool box, but I did walk away as the new owner of a few pretty cool little MAC boxes....

Honestly, I haven't looked at them that close. They're still sitting in my trunk. I think one may have held a 1/4'' drive set. I'm not positive on the maker of the side box w/the key...but it's a heavy little sucker.

That little on the Left with the Pull out drawer is Cool.. I wish they still packaged tools with something that would actually hold them versus Crack/fall apart.

Here ya go...

The outer cover slides down when unlocked with the key. It's a pretty cool little side box...holds a lot, but I don't have a great need for it. So I think it's going up for sale.

So he was asking 'best offer'? I don't like that, b/c usually it's people who think their sh/t is worth a lot more than it really is, and they're hoping someone is going to come in and offer them that.

I don't think that box is worth more than $1000 myself. Maybe more to some people...but definitely not $1500.

Those MAC boxes you picked up are sure nice. More than made the trip worthwhile, huh?

Yep, I agree...the two holes on the front of the slide cover should be the mounting points for a handle. The slide cover is pretty heavy. A handle is really needed to operate the cover smoothly. Should be a pretty easy item to fabricate, but a factory handle would be nice. Any idea if a replacement handle is available?

Well, so much for not needing a prybar box..... I took it all apart, cleaned and lubricated the slides and lock. Now it's all full...maybe I needed it after all. It sure did free up some space in a few of my box drawers.
