There normal slotted screwdrivers **** due to the fact that they look and act more like wedges than screwdrivers. There other stuff like Phillips and Torx are fine but there slotted are awful.

I think over a year ago maybe :dunno: Mayhew and Channellock debuted them about the same time. The Channellocks have small scallops on their handle instead of the speed ridges on the narrow part of the handle. I can't speak for the Mayhews but, the Channellock handle is too slippery with almost any automotive fluid on it. It really needs graining added to the handle.

I feel the same about the Channellocks. Too slippery.
The 1/4 square drive on the striking cap on the demo drivers is a unique feature though.

I missed the new Channellock Demo driver set. I checked online, and the Phillips Demo driver that's part of the two-piece set, also has the 1/4 square drive in the striking cap. I think that's a near genius addition and may have to pick one up. Thanks for sharing!! You always post interesting stuff

But.... if you start bashing the end of that with a hammer, isn't it going to cause the 1/4" square opening to become somewhat distorted, possibly preventing you from being able to insert a 1/4" square drive tool into the hole? :headscrat

Perhaps but, if I use a soft face dead blow, that might lessen the damage. Then again, I have other demo drivers I could beat the **** out of without the 1/4 square drive. :dunno:

The square is slightly recessed. So unless you’re using the ball end of a ball pein hammer, it should hold up well. The edges will take most the damage anyways. If you’re bashing this thing that hard, you probably need to be using something else anyways.

How much benefit is a 1/4” recess over the hex shank/bolster? Putting a wrench on it seems like a more natural way to increase the torque.

More clearance and less fiddly, better retention frees up a hand possibly. A 1/4 palm ratchet essentially makes it a ratcheting screwdriver.

^ That was the idea behind the "Palm Grip" screwdriver.
