If you want a good quality, affordable USA-made pick set then I'd recommend this Pratt-Read set. I've had it about a year and they've worked really well for me.

I think the Masterforce set at Menards is the same as this, I think I paid $6 for my set.

They are the same. Pratt-Read provides a lot of tools for the Masterforce brand.
But, not every Menards seems to have them. The website claims most stores have them, but I've looked at two different ones and they didn't have the picks, or at least I couldn't find them.

I've got a set of the mayhew ones at work. They're pretty good quality, I've only had them a month or two though.

The Menards here keeps them in the aisle with the pliers, hammers, levels and utility knives. They were on the edge of a display of Empire brand measuring tools. One aisle away from the screwdrivers. Only Masterforce item in that section of tools.

Only thing I've heard with the Craftsman versions, is that the rubber grips have been known to rotate....seen reviews here and on Sears site about that issue.

I have that set and they definitely are not the same as the Wilde set. I broke one in 5 minutes of use. The Craftsman hard handle set made by Pratt Reed are much better.

The Craftsman mini-pick sets in my area aren't made by PR and aren't made in the USA any more.
You have to order the Pratt-Read ones or buy them at Menards under their Masterforce brand.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have a question.
I ended up buying the Pratt-Read set from Amazon, but when I openned it I realized it was different from what was pictured here and on Amazon. If you look at my picture, only one of the picks is knurled?
What are the thoughts on this? Think it's a mistake or that that's the way they're making them now?

On mine they're all knurled.
I would guess that either it was a mix-up, or Pratt-Read is transitioning to making them non-knurled, and your set was pieced together from both new non-knurled and one old knurled example.
An email to Pratt-Read would probably clear it up. Returning them to Amazon should be easy, if that's what you decide to do.

you forgot shipping which adds another $8.00 from tooltopia. I got in on the deal and am happy with it. Didn't get the holder for them though in my package. Not a big loss by the looks of it.

I'm bumping this old thread to update on the Pratt-Read pick situation.
Pratt-Read has transitioned from knurled shafts to non-knurled shafts, which is why there were some sets shipped with a mix of knurled and non-knurled.
The Masterforce picks at Menard's are made by Pratt-Read. For a while they had sets that were a mix of knurled and non-knurled.
I was just there yesterday and noticed they are now all non-knurled.

They're not made in the USA, they're assembled in the USA.
These are the ones I'm talking about. The black handled version are still USA made (by Ullman Devices). I don't know about the pro ones.
