I'm in a quandary. I was given a couple of years ago a MD -type of antique steel table that came from a major aerospace company from my older friend who worked there a long time ago. He actually had several and eventually gave them all away except one or two. He asked if i wanted one and there was no way i was going to turn it down. It came with a formica top to go over it and is in pretty good shape (don't know if the others had formica tops but suspect they did per our talkings). We got the legs out and started to assemble the table and found out that they were not the correct legs and but did fit. Sorta. I don't have pictures but they don't fit the contour. The bolts go through to the brackets of the table but the layout on the top of the legs protrude so far out that there is space to actually look all the way down to the bottom of the leg and you can put 3 fingers in the space. There is NO way that these go together to make the table look correct. I don't have pictures as it is currently being used. The formica table covers up the issue.
You could weld a cover over the top portion and would at least stop things from falling down in them, but it still would look like a baboon's hind-end without the formica top. The legs, best i could tell, are a tapered leg.
I would like to restore it (i think all it needs is paint), but the legs are a big freaking problem. I have been looking at eBay for legs and have had no luck at all. I'm too the point I am thinking about getting rid of it. Making new ones would cost an arm and a leg (pun intended possibly) to fab up (no welder or experience at it). Suggestions? I'm to the point of just getting rid of it (taking up precious space in the garage) as i would like to use it as my desk in my office but I don't want to use the formica top nor look at the baboon's hind-legs or fish junk out of the legs. Or hurt my buddy's feelings (most of all).
