Model # T2602T Bench grinder
Nothing special I guess. It's pre-1985 for sure since that's when M-E got sold off.
I bought a pallet of stuff at an auction two weeks ago and finally got to going through a tote of junk that was on it. I knew it was in there but today was the first day I had where I was able to actually sort it out and deal with it properly. I sort of went through it the day we brought it home when I gave my buddy a few things out of the tote that he wanted.
Anyway, brought it in the house and plugged it in. It works fine but it vibrated badly on that first try. So I took the side covers off and took the wire wheel and stone off and tried again, smooth running motor now. The stone had a huge mud daubers nest on one side that I didn't previously see...
I've done a rudimentary search online for any info on it or a copy of a OM but didn't find much of anything so far. It's a bare bones grinder, most everything on it is missing. The water tray was crushed, no tables or hardware for them or spark guard shield hardware. Making new ones shouldn't be too hard, so maybe those will go on my half mile long list of to-do's.
Overall it's oily and filthy. I think I'll just clean it up some, put two wire wheels on it and call it good.
The drawback is that the mounting holes in the pot metal/aluminum housing have been broken out so mounting is going to require some creativity. Off the top of my head I'm thinking flat or bent strap clamps in the hollow areas of the broken holes held down with lag bolts.
It uses 6" wheels but it spins too fast to use as a knife sharpener (and I doubt that the run-out is good enough). However, with nearly total coverage of the wheels with the housing even using wire wheels might be a problem.
Anyone else have a Shopmate grinder? The one in the picture is not mine but is the same style except both side of the front half of the housing are complete.
