Can you calculate SCFM from the pump and motor specs or do you need to measure it? I have a compressor (Quincy) with an older 2 stage 2.5 hp pump and a 2 hp Dayton motor, 80 gal. It was assembled from a rebuilt older pump and I'm not sure the actual SCFM it puts out.

Thanks,
Jon

You can look up the compressor model number up on line and find the compressor output. You will need the number of compressor RPM to get an accurate reading, (this is the hard part) motor rpm, pully sizes affect the compressor rpm.

A good quality compressor will put out nearly 4 cfm per hp at 100 psi. The cheap or worn out compressors will be much less. This why I laugh at the 5 hp ratings on the hardware store compressors that only put out only 9-12 cfm.

I would use a good synthetic compressor oil such as amsoil PCK which is around $7-8.00/qt and will run from below 0*F to over 100*F. Depending on where you are located you may not NEED a synthetic but when I priced the Rarus 427 that came in my compressor it was more expensive than what I got the amsoil for & wasn't near as good of an oil for use in the winter in my unheated shop so it was a no brainer for me. You will only need a couple quarts so a couple dollar difference in price won't make or break you & since your Quincy was designed to be around a while why not give it the good stuff?
