I am looking for a new 4 jaw chuck for my 13x40 lathe. I have a 6" Bison 3 jaw on it now. The problem is the previous owner was a putz. It has a cam-loc spindle on it. He however knew better, he drilled and tapped 3 holes in it, on a small bolt circle. Then mounted an adapter plate to the spindle that had a nose that was to small to fit the chuck. So that got drilled and tapped for another adapter plate this one with a larger bolt circle and the proper sized nose, the chuck is then bolted to that. I hate **** like this. It however has been working and is running true, so I left it alone. Only problem I have run into is that by the time I mount the work, I'm to far out to use the gap in my bed.
Well I have a job that I need to mount a face plate and make a trepanning cut into a 8"x8"x1" steel plate. The recess will be 4.800 OD 4.250 ID and .500 deep. Small radius on both corners of the cut. More on that later.
Anyways, I was going to make a faceplate and mount it to the small bolt circle in my spindle. Then I decided to blow some cash and pick up a new 4 jaw, maybe a nice 8" version. Then I could chuck it up make my cut.
The lathe is a 1990's Enco 13-1020 (I think). I called Enco, they have no idea what size cam loc the spindle has. Most lathes of that size they make were fitted D-1 4 cam loc's I however am not willing to drop $400 on a chuck, shipping it 1/2 way across the country only to find that it does not fit.
I have been looking for drawings with dimensions so I could measure what I have and I can't come up with anything.
Anything you guys can show me, or if you know how to measure for this would be very helpful. Keith
