Lemme Hear it. Thoughts on the Mechanic Time Saver Socket Holders.

I want to create a couple different sets - 1/4 - 3/8, 3/8 - 1/2 impacts . Have them stick on the drawer and just lift out when I need to use.

I like the *cup* styes of the Mechanic Time Saver Sockets.

Thoughts, Suggestions, Alternative.
It's 2013. Time to get organzing

I have a bunch of them. My thoughts on them are this: I prefer them over all other types except the large set peg style racks from Hanson - but those are best for sets like a full set of 3/8" SAE or metric assortment. For the smaller sets of specialty sockets, I prefer the Mechanics Time Saver type. I just wish they had more varying sizes available. They are great when you have a set that matches the available arrangements / number of holes. An assortment of a particular style of socket where you get 10 or 12 in the normal set is perfect. On odd stuff where you get only 6 or 8, then you end up with odd empty holes that still take up space in the tool box. Sometimes that matters, sometimes it doesn't - it's up to you.

They take up quite a bit of space, but it was the best idea I've found for visibly storing 1/4" hex bits. (phillips/flat/torx/etc)

I love them, but find rail type organizers better suited to me. I have some odd sized sets that just won't work in the Mechanic's Time Savers organizers. I don't mind them taking up space because they're serve their purpose so well. They don't fall over, and can be removed from the box in one piece and slide around on the floor with me without losing a socket.

This is a good price linked below, 3 sets of 3 for $ 124.00...
Time Savers was the best option I had with a large socket set, I started with (2) MTSLAS9PACK , now have about 27 strips.
Agree with others, bit odd length sized, I need to cut down my 3/8 strips to fit my box. The only thing I would like to have had was a choice of colors, for SAE vs metric
As far as locking, I could care less, I can't be bothered locking the sockets, I would go out of my mind locking/unlocking ... as you surmised, I frustrate easily.
You can intermix the 3/8 and 1/2" socket holder on the rails.

Lost my last large set in the flood, approx 540 pieces, I used 2 inch Styrofoam on that set... for 50 bucks total. I used it in all the draws, no wasted space, took a few hours to push every socket and wrench into place. Every piece only fit into it's own space, no wasted space. I managed to not lose a piece for 20 years. The draw back was the obvious, you had to clean the tools every time... the Styrofoam started to look bad the last 4 years.

I have been using these since they were introduced way back whenever.I like to take the whole rail to the job especially if I know I will use more than 3 sockets.I like the twist-n-lock design and the magnetic base.

Its nice to be able to swap out sockets etc.. with one hand.

Yes they are a lil pricey but I dont care I like them.I ordered a bag of extra clips but have never had one break.I have all three size rails.

i have several of them in my work box.
pros:
they stay where you put them
havent broken one

cons:
they were very expensive "back in the day"
either too many, or not enough holes :wtf:

the ones i have were bought for socket sets that i didnt have metal trays, when i bought then, or they were not available

I love the holders for 1/4 drive. They are nice and small, and hold deep, and shallow. Just grab the set and go. In the extra holes i keep a small extension, and a universal joint.

I don't own any of the above product(MTS), although they look very nice. I own a product called Mag-Clip (not sure if anyone has ever heard of them?); but they are very nice for holding sockets.

Is the above product easy to use if you want to say remove a few pegs or can you add a few pegs?
