Mechanics Seat/Step stool?

Hey guys,

I'm tired of sitting on the ground when doing brake jobs so I would like to get some type of mechanic seat w/wheels but I would like something that servers a dual purpose. A small step would come in handy for working under the hood of my truck or getting something off of a high shelfs, etc..

There are 2 such products that I am aware of...

The Pro-Lift C-2800 Creeper Seat and Stool Combo (http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Lift-C-2800-Creeper-Stool-Combo/dp/B00F74IP74/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1414597380&sr=1-2&keywords=Pro+lift+seat)...

Of the Lisle 93402 Mechanics Creeper Seat/Step (http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/products/?product=529&division=2&category=20)...

Don't know much about "Pro-Lift" as a company and I'm assiming it's imported? The Lisle is probably imported too but I'd probably trust Lisle a little more but I do like the price and design of the Pro-Lift better. Any of you have any direct experience with either product or recommend a different option?

Thanks!

I like the matco one, craftsman makes the same one. They are both rebranded something that starts with a w. The craftman can be bought for 89.00

Do you happen to have a link or part number because I can't find it? I saw a couple of low mechanic seats that both Matco and CM have but neither function as a step stool also.

The Lisle one looks like an adult potty. The Pro lift one is most likely China COO.

Yeah, I'm not digging the lisle design (or price) but the Pro-Lift does look cheaply made that's why I was hoping their was a 3rd, better option.

This is one of those time I wish I had a welder and knew how to use it. I'm sure I could make something perfect without spending much time or money.

Larry, when using it as a step stool, how does it fare if you have a little oil on the bottom of your shoes/boots ?

Looks like it might get slippery. :dunno:

FWIW when I need step stool I use a step stool (or 5 gal pail)- working under the hood of my 3/4ton truck I use a Warner plank (24" high 36" long).
when I want a mechanics stool I want a comfortable, durable seat... we have several Blue Point pneu stools and most are worn out. I'm more comfortable on higher stools - 22inches like the Whitesides tractor seat ones. Tried those combo ones and the low height seated cramps my legs.

Well I can say that the above examples beat what I had to use when helping my dad as a kid. I hat a 5 gal. bucket or an old plastic milk crate with a foam cushion on it.

This was my thought. You could buy the most basic rolling mechanics seat and add the couple of things that allow it to tip on its side as a step.

i have a mac rebranded step stool exactly like that prolift. it really is junk idk how it could be improved tho. the pads tears within a month. the rubber feet wear out in the same amount of time. it slips on just about any surface. i did put some grip tape on the top of it that helped a very small amount. the rolling seat function however works fine. i would imagine the one that looks like a potty seat would probably not be any better. If it was me id buy a craftsman or any other brand rolling stool and either make a step or use a tire or 5 gallon bucket as suggested.

I can't remember specifically standing on it with oil on my boots, but even when wet I have always had a solid grip

Got the Craftsman with adjustable red seat and 5 casters that Sears/K-Mart has on sale for $20 sometime. Glad I have it. It holds my 215 lb. No step stool just the seat.

I like that first one. I'm due for a new one and plan on ordering that first one.

If there's any concern about slipping off the step, just apply some skateboard tape/grip tape on top of it.
