Some limited feedback on mechanicstoolsupply.com: I ordered an EZ-Red ratcheting wrench set, priced at $110, along with three small items that were less than $10 each. All four items were listed as being in stock. I got a shipping confirmation the next day. When the package arrived, the three small items were in it, but no wrench set. The package was undamaged. The packing slip listed all four items, including the wrench set, and my Paypal account had been charged for the full amount with no partial refund. I sent them an email, which they responded to the next morning. They told me the wrench set is back ordered from the factory, and won't be available until mid-July. They offered to cancel the order and refund the price of the wrench set, and I accepted. The refund appeared in my Paypal account almost immediately.
So, good and honest communication after the sale, and no harm done in the end. But a couple things are annoying: 1) "In stock" should mean I have it in stock right now, or if not, I'll notify you and give you a chance to cancel, 2) When I get a package with 4 items on the packing slip, I expect to find 4 items, or a note or email telling me why there aren't 4 items. I shouldn't have to wonder what happened.
I get the impression that this might be standard operating procedure for some online sites, but I've had this experience with only one other online merchant, and that was chadstoolbox.com.
This is just one experience, which could be an outlier. If you've had good experiences with this particular site, don't take this feedback personally.
