Meddings pillar drill - help needed

Hi everybody. I'm new on here and wished I'd found this site earlier as there's so much good info and helpful people here.

I'm refurbishing a Meddings bench pillar drill which has the markings 9373/LT/MK III on the head casting.

I'm trying to remove the shaft that the operating handle is connected to (labelled A on photo) but not sure how to get it out. I've removed two screws from threaded holes labelled B & C. The part labelled D appears to be plastic and I'm suspicious that it isn't original. Part E is aluminium and I'm reluctant to put too much force on it in case it cracks.

Does anyone have an exploded parts diagram for this drill please. I saw a diagram on here for a MK II version but that is different to my MK III.

Thanks in advance.

You havn't said where you are, but I'm sensing it's the U.K.

First off, try www.lathes.co.uk - despite the name there is info on many machines, and you might be able to get a scan of the manual!

Secondly, try Meddings direct. I know they still offer spares for many machines, even old models, and may be able to provide a diagram!

Hi Dave455 & thanks for the reply. I'm in Bucks, UK (fixed now in my profile).

I had looked on lathes.co.uk but couldn't find any reference to the LT model.

I'll try contacting Meddings direct.

I contacted Meddings and a nice man there sent me a copy of the exploded parts diagram. He identified my machine as a Mk2 version of their Driltru type which were in production between 1970 & 1979.

Excellent service from Meddings and with that info., I've now succeeded in removing the shaft.

If anyones interested, here's the parts diagram....

Hi Biffo, is there a chance you've got a bigger version of this diagram? I can't make out some of the writing. I'm just about to start stripping mine down.

Kryten, if you do a "save as" for the file to your computer and then insert it into a program like word or powerpoint you can stretch the image from one corner and make it much larger and more readable.

I did MShaw, but at that point it gets worse because of the low resolution. I asked as it's unusual for a company to archive diagrams like this at a low res. Thought maybe it's been downsized, somewhere along the line, for upload bandwidth purposes.
