For those of you in Meijer country, they are switching over to Tekton and have all of their Stanley stuff for 75 percent off. Personally I don't think Stanley

stuff is too bad, especially at that price.

Mine had a few channel locks and vice grips for 50 off but not what I would consider good stuff. The good stuff was still full price. Meijer has a surprisingly good tool section.

That's a coup. Don't recall MIT ever having a chain retail presence. They seem to rebrand a lot (if not all) of stuff but the company buyers making those selections seem to know what they're doing quality wise. It would be a major coup if they ran returns at retail in those stores (which they might do?)...that would be a killing blow to stanley (non-rebranded as other stuff that has a retail warranty) as far as their walmart sales (which don't seem so hot in the first place).

MIT is Grand Rapids based right? So is Meijer.

And once you go to a Meijer, why would you ever need to go to a Wal Mart? lol

I like Meijer a lot more than Walmart. They are everywhere around me but not a one in the Cleveland area. Closest one is in Sandusky. I really wish they would come to Cleveland. I could always use another option over Wal-Mart.

Tekton also just changed a few parts over to US source. There was a thread on that a while back. I can't stand most China Stanley but I may have to check this out to see what is there. Thx. - Paul

I'm fairly impressed with Tekton tools. They do just rebrand items, but they choose well, and they often upgrade their tools in some way from other brands (namely the HF equivalent).

For example, they sell the "same" lauded HF 25in breaker bar, but the head is made of Chrome-Moly, not Chrome Vand like the HF one. Should be stronger (not that it is really needed...?)

Their ratchet mechanisms are the 72T Kobalt/HF composite ratchet, which are very smooth and strong.

Sockets are all Taiwan (except 3/4 drive) and have good chrome.

Pretty much everything they sell has been recommended as a good buy under one of the other brands it is sold by. Now not to mention their Wilde pliers (USA made) they now sell!

I'm going to order their 24in 1/2 drive ratchet soon, and their 40in 3/4 drive breaker bar. "Need" both of them!

I have yet to see the Wilde pliers at my Meijer's. I shop at Meijer's and Kroger, because they are union. I will look again the next time I go.

I will buy a pair of Wilde pliers when I do see them, though. I want to reward Tekton with some of my business for trying to sell American tools. I want the 10" slip joints (Item # 37124) and maybe the 8" (Item # 37123), too.

ACE hardware has a tool aisle that is mostly Tekton.

When I buy tools from emerging markets, I want emerging market prices. I do not buy Southwire tools at Lowe's, when I can buy Klein for the same price. I do not buy Tekton tools when I can buy the same tool at Harbor Freight for half as much or less (with sale and coupon).

I guess this is more regional? I stopped by my local meijer yesterday hoping for some deals on Channellocks. No such luck as none of the CL's tools were on sale or clearance. Some of the Stanley stuff was but most of the sale/clearance items were Tekton stuff

Stopped by my Meijer near Toledo Ohio, lots of channellock, almost all the stanley, tekton (i didn't buy that garbage),, but 'most' was marked 50% off, and another 50% off, so I got a 6 piece stanley screwdriver set for 2.60 (made in USA). Channel lock electricians pliers around $10. Pretty good deals

When I lived in Toledo in the '90's they built four pretty much simultaneously - basically each corner of the Toledo/Maumee/Oregon area.

I stopped by our local store today and saw equal amounts of Tekton and Stanley tools on clearance. One item that caught my eye was a Stanley 9pc 3/8" drive socket set with an extendable locking flex head ratchet for $14.44. If I didn't already have two of the Kobalt "tune-up kits" with the flex head ratchet and more sockets than I need, I would have bought one. I do not yet own a locking flex head ratchet though...

Walmart is usually open 24 hours. Believe me it's happened more than once for me. While the tool selection is slightly bare bones they got a decent enough supply and easier than going to a 24 hour autozone for me if I need something. Sometimes it can wait, sometimes it can't.

Meijer is open 24 hours as well, probably one of the first stores to do so. In fact Meijer was the one of the originators of the Hypermarket back in the 60's.

In many places in Michigan Wal Mart has had a hard row to hoe and in fact many large towns did not even have a Wal mart until 15 or so years ago.

Once you have a Meijer you will never want Wal Mart again, the food quality is second to none for one thing, real butchers on site, great fresh produce, name brand clothes and shoes for the same prices Wal Mart charges for ****, well paid long term employees that actually care, the list goes on and on. It is really amazing.

We don't have a meijer around here yet. You would think Wisconsin is close enough... I hear good things though.

Years ago when it was still called Meijer Thrifty Acres, we used to go the one in Northville Mi. On Thursday nights they would bring some of the "better" patients from the state looney bin up the road. It actually made grocery shopping five star entertainment.

And Sandy the pony, i forgot all about that 1 cent thrill ride.

What a terrible comment. Glad you no longer live here.

Just went to my local Meijer last night (M59 in White Lake) to see what they had. Looks like the conversion to Tekton was about complete as they had a ton of shelf space devoted to them.

Not much left from Stanley: tape measures, plastic toolboxes and some of the blow mold socket kits. All looked to be at regular retail prices, no mark downs.
