I'm new to the board and was wondering what criteria was used to signify members as Senior, Junior or otherwise?

It boils down to the number of posts you have made. I do not recall the number it takes to rank as a senior member, I want to think it is like 100.

You have to hang around for a couple of years, and have started or participated in a few tool brand wars to be considered a Senior. Seniors are usually grumpy old farts with wisdom...

I have been a member here for years I dont post alot usually just when I have something new I made to show or something HVAC related . I want to say you have to have 250 posts to be considered a senior member to me I will admit I dont think this constitues a senior member . I have been around since we were Junkies 
. I know alot of members here have been around that long.

Post count is a poor indicator IMHO, but I don't know how else you could go about it, either.
As rick said, there are many people that just speak up on one topic or another, he's helped me out quite a bit, even on the phone.

For senior membership could do a combination of at least one year membership and 500 posts.
If that's the case, I vote that it doesn't start until July...when I have my one year anniversary!

Hi Ryan - if you're reading - I REALLY think it would be nice to seperate the designations a bit - to really give the "old timers & high posters their due and Newbies something to shoot for. Seems to me this 100 post designation has never changed.
I agree with 67Galaxie: maybe Senior can be above 500 posts and 1 year. Or you can have a couple designations, based on posts or years....I'm sure you guys can come up wiht some designations that would add to posters "desire" to stick around.

Does it really matter what tag is there? Everyone can see the date anyhow and it would be laughable to think I'm a senior here. The option can also be changed or removed in vB (i've worked extensively with several forums), so it can all be changed, but does it really matter that much?

Not to me, we are all members here new or old, high numbers or first time posting. It is easy to adopt a with rank comes privilege stance when you are the guy setting on thousands of posts.
Personally, while I am in the little special group of senior members, I do not think such a group should ever have been made. I appreciate the fact that I was invited to join, but I think it starts to set up a pecking order that kind of has the effect of possibly making guys with a lower post count with the feeling that their opinion or post is not held or regarded as highly as someone with thousands of posts under their belt. Which is really dingy.
Yea, I have almost 7000 posts, but I learn stuff from new guys coming on board all the time. I do not think any special fuss needs to be made over any member. We all started here with post #1. My 2 bits

I'm in agreement. One of the forums I had even eliminated join dates and post counts, to establish equality between members, so such situations as flame wars using baseless post whoring and join date as a defense was wasted.
To me, post count means nothing... And rewarding post count often leads to bad stuff... know what I mean?

I like SFT's system up to 150 posts you are a junior member from there you move to a member up to 250 posts which make you a senior member until you hit 1000 posts where you become an elite member and have the option of having something put there in place of Elite member .

Has the member reputation feature ever been turned on on this site. I know it is an option and see it used on my favorite site which is a Saints football sight. With the rep system, members can rate other posts as useful or not. The more helpful your posts and responses, the more reputation you earn.
The reason I mentioned this is because I received some great help today and I was wanting to give them some plus rep but I see it is not activated.
