They come in handy when you least expect it. I've used mine for appliance repair and the door hinge bolts on my XJ.

I've snapped one of the torx bits so far and they replaced the bit no questions asked.

limit one?

this is the first time the 6th Ave store (#51) has had that kit in stock when I've checked.
They might go quick

If you do go and they can’t find any, look around the store.

For some reason (maybe the economy) I saw several sets “jettisoned” in nearby aisles, as if shoppers had a change of heart, or budget.

It does look pretty tiny for $25, but it’s small goodness once one tears through the packaging it’s a real nice little case and the tools well designed and solid, considering the size.

I've been trying to get one for almost two years. That store is out of stock on every high-demand item. ("meme" tool kit, larger "meme" tool kit, ICON 1/4" ratchet, "Mag Mat", etc.)

I've given up on the "Mag Mat" - they're always out.

I addressed the issue to their offices after waiting for 6 days trying to get a 19mm socket and finally just ordered four of them from Tekton (free shipping.)

Not sure what the problem is, considering they're telling me they have a distribution center out in Puyallup - 15 miles east.

The girl said she'd set one out for me. It damn well better be waiting for me when I get up there.

I picked one up today, was close to HF around opening time. Did have a pile of them, expect they will be gone by the end of the day. Seems decent for the $$$. I have an older Gearwrench set with a mini ratchet that takes 1/4 and 5/16 bits, but it is not flex head. I can see the utility in small spaces, and build quality on ratchet seems stout, even the locking flex.

I can see tossing this in the travel kit with a 1/4 Kobalt set I have and getting some work done.

I picked this up a few months ago (I think it was a few months anyway). It's a really nice little set up. The ratchet feels good, the locking flex is a solid touch, and the ability to easily turn it into a longer handle version is very convenient. Versatile, and the small head allows you to sneak it into tight spaces.

Paid $40 a few days ago for my FIL for Xmas ... I won’t tell him I missed out on saving $15, that’d cause him to not like it 😀

I've had one for a year or two, it can be useful. I rarely run into pozi drive or whatever they're called, so I removed those 3 "PZ" bits and replaced with 7/64, 9/64, and 7/32- which I do use for SAE socket head cap screws.

i have one and have used it often. my son used mine and immediately went and got one for himself.

i just used it over the weekend on my new holland t6070 elite tractor. there is a sensor on each side of the tractor that senses forward and reverse gear position. they are about arm deep under the cab. they come factory with a phillips head fastener and i replaced them with a hex headed cap screw. i figured since i had them out to clean the terminals it would be wise to replace the hardware. sooner or later the soft phillips were going to be an issue in an a hard-to-reach area.

When did they change the ratchet and extension? :wtf:
That's not a good sign!
Don’t you just love when we post something new here and then it shows up on YouTube shortly after? Just how many content creators are lurking in the shadows here? :eyecrazy:

Anyways, this video is pretty good in showing the differences I was referring to. He wasn’t quite right about the flex lock as its different too.

I am pretty disappointed HF changed this, but can’t say I am surprised.

I’m a sucker for compact tool kits and this fits the bill nicely and sales are a huge weak point for me. Problem is, I already have two of these little assortments from last year.

I still bought me limit 1 and intend to use it for a family gift exchange. I’m anticipating the kind of carnage that the bottle of wine and box of chocolates brought last year.

I wish I had never seen that video. Now I'm disillusioned with my $25 purchase.

Otherwise, I would have just thought it was a pretty neat useful little set.

I bought a few more of these over the weekend. One was a gift and the other is going into one of the car kits. I did open the one I’m keeping and it’s the older design.

I’m sure we can figure out by the production date on the box when the change occurred. Do you still have the box yours came in? Normally HFT stamp a date on a little circular sticker on the rear of the box.

I keep one in the kitchen junk drawer. It is the ultimate junk drawer tool. It gets used all the time.

I wonder how much my OG meme tool will catch on eBay for? Think this will be like an orig iPhone and be worth $190k?!

Looks like I have the "new and not improved design"

This topic plus the video has taken HF nitpicking to a whole new level. It's a tool set they are practically giving away.

There is a **** ton of different logic on "lot codes, batch codes, manufacturing codes", but it appears by the second set of digits it was made CW20 (calendar week 20, so mid-May) of 2025. The first set of digits could be the plant/lot codes and shift.

I need to check mine (old version) box to see when it was made. All of mine are the old style.

i am not convinced that there is a complete changeover. i have been in several stores with lots of stock and they have all seemed to be the older or first generation.

there just may be 2 styles. doesn't anyone remember that not that long ago hf had 2 versions of thing that were nearly identical but had subtle differences. toolboxes and certain wrench sets come to mind.

This is one of my go to tools/sets. This is a great deal even at regular price and an absolute steal on sale. If you work on Euro cars, this set will save years of stress off your life.

Part of what made this set so desirable for me personally was the use of, and compatibility of the reliable Gear Hex mechanism found in other high quality brands like Facom, USAG, VIM, Prestacycle, Tone, KS Tools, etc.
Making the ratchet and extension proprietary could be for one of several reasons, but it makes them incompatible with the original ICON version and could even mean a different manufacturer. For those of us who already have it, like myself, this is not simply nitpicking.
These may be just as good or even better, but thats not my primary concern.

There are many options to consider in this small 1/4" drive category if you feel disillusioned by Harbor Freight (lol).

I love the Wurth version of this little set:

It's a little larger, doesn't have as many bits, but does offer metric sockets:
