Does anyone have one of these??? What is the actual utility of the work surface? Can you get anything out of the top two drawers of the roller once the surface is extended?

Menards stores usually have one on display you can look at.

I believe the work surface is metal, maybe aluminum? I doubt you're going to get into the top roller drawer, but maybe in the second when it's open.

I have this model. The work surface is solid you cannot open the drawer above if you have something on the surface. I use it mostly for my laptop or for writing. You can also flip it upside down and use as a shallow drawer.
Overall I am very pleased, its well made, the caster are heavy duty. The unit comes with a dense foam rubber for all the drawers.

I have the 36" and the 41" of these...both upper and lower. I LOVE them. I didn't know about flipping the work surface.... I normally only use it when I am picking up after a project. Toss handfuls of tools on the surface and then sorta them all out once I have them collected.

But another BIG shallow drawer might be nicer.

Jah, I bought one last month when they were on sale. sturdy unit. well constructed. Thanks for the 'turn the top over and make a shallow drawer' idea.
only thing i do not like is the color.
those stickers are a pia to get off.

I have one and love it. I wish I could get another one. I'd trade my 26" Craftsman boxes for one, though I know it's not a fair trade. Maybe I'll run in to someone how been hit on the head, :lol_hitti

Does anyone know who makes these boxes for Menards? They look very similar in style to the Viper boxes Sears sells. Not sure who makes Viper boxes either.

Old thread resurrection, I know, but I am looking at one of these to replace my 2 old 26" Craftsmans. Does anyone recall what the sale price was on the 41" combo?

After looking at both the Viper and the Mastercraft boxes, they appear to be very similar. I like the colors on the Vipers better, but Sears will only ship them to homes and not to stores for local pickup and the shipping costs are insane. The Mastercraft boxes from Menard's also now come in blue, red, black and the original dark green.

For you guys who have them, how are they holding up?

The Masterforce boxes used to look like the Viper boxes, but do not any longer. The new ones have different style pulls and have a griplatch feature.

Sears does have outrageous shipping on large items like that. One suggestion I have is to find a Sears that stocks the 41" Viper and drive there to pick it up. Only select stores carry them, the one in Portage MI being one of them.

I see the 46" combo is on sale now for $898. The drawer configuration is divided differently than the 41". I have the older style 41" top for a little over a year now and it's holding up fine.

Likewise. I wish I could come up with the scratch to buy another set.

Image removed for simplicity

That price to me doesn't look that fantastic. I think it's only like $80 off the regular everyday price. I'm not cheap, but I don't NEED a new box to replace the two 26"ers I have. I'd rather look for a holiday or Black Friday event when they are doing deeper discounts or rebates (like that recent 11% one in January). It's definitely on my radar, though, so I'm going to have to keep my eyes on it.

Just saw that Viper has released their boxes now in purple, too... hmmm... that's going to be a problem. :D

That's a great deal, and you can special order that in any color they offer, too, for that price. My issue is that the 56" is so massive, that without the base cabinet, I wouldn't have any place to put it. I don't know how many people would use up their shop bench space with almost 5' of toolbox. Nice piece, awesome price, but after looking at the size of that thing, I would absolutely need the bottom cabinet before anything else.

how do these compare to the harbor freight boxes?

I have the ok from the wife to get a box for the basement. I just want the top box for now because I want to put it on top of my work bench.

there is a Menards in my area but I haven't made it up to check these out. The harbor freight box is 3" wider and $50 less.

I have looked at both in person. I was really surprised at the quality of the HF box, but I just have zero interest in a new red toolbox. To me, it comes down to colors and drawer configuration. I'm leaning heavily toward the Masterforce 41" combo.

I'd say they are comparable the HF boxes as well. My local store still has a couple of the old style top boxes in different widths on clearance. You might be able to snag a deal on just a top box if your local store has any left.

I'd have to say these are on par with the HF boxes, ive been at both stores played with both of them, but the new masterforce boxes have the griplatch design and you can pick colors, im really really tempted when the new menards opens 3 miles from my house to get a blue one and ditch the HF 44. i pretty sure i saw double slides on the masterforce deeps drawers too....if not there were tabs already there to add them...so im sure for a couple more bucks you could add the dbl slides.
