I couldnt find the Masterforce tool boxes on Menard's web site so i sent their customer service an email asking why, here's the reply;

"We do not sell or list our store inventory online. We have terrific stores
that are filled with top quality merchandise at astonishingly low prices and
serviced by the friendliest folks around. Please stop by.

Best Regards, Ray"

I wonder if he has been on the web site where their products are listed?

I think they had items listed on thier website for a couple of months at most. The are a little late getting into online. If you look at what is listed, it is just a bunch of random stuff. I'm sure they will add more over time.

In the past the site just have the weekly ads and a few other little things.

They are real late getting online, but I like Menards. Their in store price scanners leave alot to be desired though, they still use old 15" CRT monitors, some of them with green screens.

Yeah, their web-site leaves a lot to be desired. I usually only go there for the weekly ads.

A few months back i e-mailed them about the Masterforce Toolboxes, I asked if they were available in a color outer than that hideous green. It took them about 2 weeks to let me know that they are not.

:Full disclosure, not that it matters but I worked there part time while I was in college.:

Going into a Menards is definitely not a pleasurable experience, but they do have some decent USA made stuff.

Menard's is a high-low or 'promotional' retailer. They put things tons on sale at low prices to drive traffic and volume much like Sears. Home Depot and Lowe's are EDLP (Every Day Low Price) retailers that mainly have the same price all the time on the things they sell and only rarely put things on sale. This is why Menard's has a big thing circular in the newspaper while HD & Lowe's usually have a small one that is mainly there to compete with Sears on appliance sales.

It is much easier for HD & Lowe's to give out a 10% discount for military personnel or just people who bought a new house without losing money. A company like Menard's has a lot less margin left to give up when people bundle those discounts with their sales.

Your father should shop at HD or Lowe's because he gets a better price but he should not avoid Menard's because he feels they are in some way Anti-American or anit-vet. They just have a different pricing strategy that does not allow them to offer additional discounts.

I got peeved at Menard's one day, and shot off an email, asking what their major malfunction was, as to why they cant go online like the rest of the world. I told them my "Menard's Safaris" where coming to end, until they went online.

Turns out I lied, I'm there at least 3 or 4 times a week, I'm sure Ive dumped 15k there this year, and wouldn't be surprised to learn it was more like 20k. I just wished I could look online prior to driving to town to wander aimlessly through their store.

I got an almost instant reply, asking me to continue to shop there. I have a love/hate relationship with them. If I had an alternative, Id be gone in a second.

I always find it hard to find things in their stores. Maybe just because the ones near my house are the older two level ones. It also seems strange they sell food, clothing and mattresses too. They must get some really good deals on strange stuff....

I hate menards. try returning any amount of lumber and you'll soon know why. Ohh and their materials list are worthless. I knew I shouldnt of trusted it, but I was over whelmed by all the friendly people. Then I gave them my money and things changed over night. couldnt get phone calls returned, couldnt get answers to my questions. I wont ever buy anything from menards again unless I can walk out of the store with it and Im absolutely sure I wont want or need to return it.

And they delivered 5 of my trusses to me damaged. By a skidsteer. yup, one of jackass 16 year olds they have running those things rammed the topchord while trying to pick them up. They sent a sheet of 3/4 plywood so I could repair them myself but would not give me any meaningful discount for the headache. Dipshits didnt know I ordered my trusses several weeks early in case something like this happened. I had to demand they order new ones or I was refusing the entire order and calling HD. Thats why I paid with credit card. Its much easier to negotiate when visa is on your side.

That's why you don't buy lumber at Menards...their lumber quality is laughable.

their lumber is ****. I was in need of 10 2x4s. I went through the whole dang pallet with lumber being drawn out everywhere to get some semi-decent stuff.

I go there because its close. Small stuff. I would never buy anything of quality there though. Just looking at the items they sell, they seem a tad inferior to alot of items lowes has.

actually the $6,000 in lumber they delivered was surprisingly good. I had very few twisted or warped 2xs.

Especially considering the new fence I built with lumber from HD. around $2000 spent I returned/exchanged about 70%. I put a 4x4 into the ground straight and plumb. I left on vacation for 5 days and by the time I got back, just the top half of that post warped about 4 inches. I managed to straighten it somewhat back to normal although there is a piece of 2x4 acting as a spacer on the top stringer. Bottom 2 stringers are still straight with no spacer. Im sure it will warp back, but I had to get the fence done and Ill deal with next summer if it does.

Lowes wouldnt even give me a quote on my prepared material list. Wanted me to pay a fee $250 and have it sent to corporate and wait about a month. They will never get another job from me until that policy changes and the fee is dropped. No fee if you buy from them though.....to bad you dont know what they are going to charge until you pay the fee.

All the real local lumber yards close too early for me to get there, so that wasnt a solution either. Kinda reminds me of cell phone companies, youre not picking the one you like, just the one you hate the least

i spent 15k so far in the last 12 months doing renovations for my house. menards has had 90% of that money. i will agree about there web site, it sure isn't much. but i am lucky enough to have 2 menards locations with in 15 miles from me, 4 home depots within 30 miles of me and 2 lowes with in 20 miles. what i have done is looked at hd and lowes sites for my pricing and write it down, then go to menards- if menards price was the same or just a few penny's over then i would just buy there. To bad that your menards don't give ya the vet discount year round as mine does because they match other competitors discounts. also if the 10% is a deal breaker, you could always get the movers packet from the post office, it has a lowes 10% coupon that menards and hd honor. they all were taking gil-roy coupons i had, 5$ off 10$ purchase and 15$ off 20$ purchases, i was eating them up when buying tons of items in the 10-25 ranges, i really only paid for half of my drywall screws and mud with these coupons. i saved probably 4k or more on this build with all my coupons/discounts. returns have never been an issue either, always no questions asked, except for do you want cash back or voucher..........

Menard's is closest to me but i admit that i only get items over $50 when they are on sale. The Lowe's closest to me has rotten customer service the staff is lazy. The home depot usually doesn't have everything i need for any project i'm working on. The Masterforce tool box was the best cost/quality one in all the stores. Craftman seemed to thin for the cost, Kobalt was overpriced and husky was crappy. I now have the Masterforce 41" and i like it; even the color.

Lowe's folks are lazy as **** as well.

It takes damn near an act of Congress to get a hand with lumber. Sorry but loading a few thousand $$s of lumber by myself isn't all that easy!

The other day the one up the road ran out of OSB. I mean not a sheet in the whole store. I asked them if they could lookup the other stores to see what they had and it was like I asked the cashier to hand over a kidney and her first born child.

Home Depot is no better and their inventory *****.

The local lumber yard isn't bad, but their prices are up there, some stuff is 2x the cost.

The service at the local Menards is much better than the local Lowes. The lumber is better displayed at Lowes, but I'm not so sure about a quality difference, though. A couple years ago, there was a better grade available that Menards was always out of on my trips. Fortunately we still have a couple small, quality oriented lumber yards left in the area.
It is too bad that Menards is so far behind online, though. Maybe they will do it well with accurate location availability and customer pick up.
