going to start buying masterforce stuff i think.. at least for screwdrivers and pliers and such. our sears is closing so my craftsman drivers wont be getting repaired when they break. how is menards with the warranty on masterforce stuff like drivers and pliers?

i needed a new set of needle nose.. ended up leaving with this. 17 bucks after rebate is a smoking deal for all 6 of these, very comfortable too. dig the finish.

https://www.menards.com/main/tools-...38-c-9156.htm?tid=4740102935174039918&ipos=15

For the first time this year, I tried the warranty. I had a few Masterforce shovels which had broken. They took them back and told me to get new ones without needing a receipt. One they no longer made, they gave me the difference in cash between the shovel I had and one they still carried.

I had a broken pair of Masterforce slip-joint pliers... gave them to a friend of mine after the good luck I had with the shovels, and he said they handed him a new pair no questions asked.

Seems they are doing a good job with the Masterforce warranties. It has been 110% hassle-free thus far.

Menards deals are sure getting less and less. They got rid of the contractor reps, which means essentially no customized pricing for large orders/etc. I took the $20,000 I spent in December/January to Lowes.

11% rebate coinciding with other sales is done.

20% brown bag sale is now a 15% bag sale where you have to buy the bag for a buck.

The 111% price match guarantee is no longer. The policy is they will now just match a competitors price, but they're a pain in the *** about it. Same with using competitor coupons.

Lame!

Pretty sure they're still Pratt-Read, I haven't noticed any design changes. They're good drivers.

The pliers and stuff seem to be lowest bidder a lot of the time, I'm pretty sure the manufacturer varies quite a bit.

Pratt-Read only exists as a name these days. The name is owned by Ideal, owners of WF.

The butcher block pieces people commonly use for workbenches are on sale. The big one is $10 off with a $20 mail-in rebate.

So you doubt they will ever offer the 11% off gift card again

It's bothering me more and more, especially now making you buy the bag. Plus it seems like their ads **** anymore. But hey I at least I spend a lot less there now.

the way i look at it is their prices are generally better than other box stores, and i'd be ecstatic to walk into any other store and be offered 11 percent off of anything, or 15 percent off of whatever i can fit into a bag, even if it costs 98 cents (that's a $6.50 purchase to cover the cost of the bag). i'll keep shopping there, and wont complain that the store is offering to pay me back for shopping there

Yeah their sales are pretty bad and the selection of pipe and electrical supplies is going down hill fast. For giggles I went to my local mom and pop contractor electrical supply store they had great selection and were way cheaper then menards.

The fernco flexible PVC piece I needed was $2-3 cheaper, so almost half of other places. Agree on the ads, but the prices seem pretty in line, if not better.

I agree with that. I have always counted on Menards to have a much broader selection than HD or Lowes. However, they reset my local store last year and while the selection is still broader, it took a serious hit. As a remodeling contractor, I'm moving more and more to supply houses over the big boxes.

I haven't noticed much a reduction in selection, at least in the electrical department. (It's driving me nuts but neither Lowes, HD nor Menards carrys the SqD ground bar for the 40-space panels, PK27GTA)

Menards prices still seem to be very competitive.

I still love Menards, don't get me wrong. Just don't love it as much.

Who knows why they did that... lots of speculation. Since it was semi-random, I think it's difficult to know... but since it didn't become a regular thing (didn't happen in the following years at the same time) I would guess we won't see that again.

On the other hand, its (11% + 11%) only 20.2% off, so it's not a mind-blowing discount and inline with what their regular sales often have on individual items.

One of 2 local Menards I go to is in the middle of the biggest most ridiculous reset I have ever seen a store undertake and I used to manage resets at most of the Lowes stores in the Chicago region.

They are moving about 50% of the store around. Half of it is covered in plastic floor to ceiling. Seems like everything I want is missing from the shelves. Stuff they have set to the middle of the aisles for temporary display aren't on sale.

Lady in front of me in line last night reminded me about the 15% off sale with the green bag you had to buy for 98 cents. So I saved 9 dollars in stead of 10. Shrug

oh well /rant

we have 2 around here and the furthest one away went through that, my main store is doing the same right now. *****, because with that they just moved most of the lumber and all of the drywall outside. real pain in the *** if you want to go in for 1 stud you're short and have to drive around now. the lumber yard is much more packed now that everyone drives around for 1 or 2 boards. takes quite a while to get in and out sometimes

Yep. Not really sure what we are going to gain out the other side of this reset but it is super inconvenient. All the insulation and practically all lumber was outside. Even all the drywall was in the lumber shed. Menards is putting my loyalty to the test lately.

i dont care for the drywall being outside at all... very stupid idea IMO. between humidity and blowing wind and rain.. not good. and the drywall here is located at the start of the building so not far fetched to think blowing rain could get in.

My local Menards reset last year. They squeezed the plumbing and electric into about the same footprint as the former plumbing & electronics section. They then moved the HVAC where the electric was. It appears that a lot of the movement and consolidation was to make way for more general household and organization items as well as their new line of Ikea style cabinets.

Our local Menards (Spencer, Iowa) is also making changes. When I was there last week, they had moved the pet stuff to where the windows used to be. Windows were sort of shoved into a seasonal area. Moving pets allowed them to double the grocery area, which they were in the process of putting things on shelves.

There was construction underway at the back of the store, above where they keep doors. Looked like they were turning it into a 2nd floor sales area, maybe for windows?

The store reset IMO is a logical continuation to them getting rid of the contractor representatives. No need to be able to come in to the front of the store and quick deal with your contractor rep. So that space in front is better for selling product.

The reset stores I've seen (Antigo, WI at least is set up like that) have a lot more tool boxes and storage products on display there, which is nice to have. They have a whole isle of shelf storage bins instead of the 3-4 the old layout carries. The tool boxes are no longer by the tools.

The building materials in the store like pieces of lumber are laid out vertically, which ***** IMO And leads to even more bent pieces of wood. The back of the store has a display area for building materials where all the shelving units are like 4' high... seems to waste a TON of space.

So, it seems there is some good and some bad with the reset.

I like to go through the Menards add, Lowes & Home Depot don't have good adds like Menards. Menards also seems to have more made in USA stuff, I always look at the label. If Mr Menard were to go the Lowes/HomeDepot route of stocking almost exclusively Chinese made stuff, I would stop shopping there, as I have Lowes & Home Depot

20' generator cord (10/4 cord) with L14-30 plugs, plus an adapter to two 5-20 receptacles is on clearance for $38.99. Two of them fit in a bag. The adapter sells for $18.99 alone, and a 25' cord is $70, so this is a pretty good deal for $33 with the bag sale.

I went into Menards this morning and saw those puny cheap Menards bags. You use to be able to use the paper bag and put some of t he medium sized stuff in it, but with those cheap green bags you can barely get 2 jugs of oil in them.

I think the length and width of the bags is pretty much the same as a paper bag. The height is a little less. They are no different than most reusable bags. The paper bags they used to use were junk. I think they bought the thinnest paper bags they could get. Many times the bags would rip before you got to the cashier.

Someone mentioned that Home Depot was matching the Menards bag sale. I brought my Menards bag to Home Depot and they said they would match it. However, the cashier made me buy a Home Depot reusable bag. I am going to see if I can return the bag.

Don’t know if this was mentioned, and maybe it does not matter now since the bag sale is over for now, but, you could put something in the bag that measured 2x bag height.

that would be fair, i didn't have to, but the bag sale does say it has to be with a menards reusable bag, so if home depot said it had to be with their bag that would be an exact copy of the sale

Nope, regular ad.

Free after rebate nylon utensils, pizza cutter, and ice scraper with "comfy" mit, ceramic pet bowl, 6' dog leash, and stacking tilt bins.

There is also a 49 cent after rebate cordless engraver for those that like to deface their tools.

A lot of places get their Sunday paper's ads on Friday or Saturday prior. I used to where I lived, but not now. So I always hope someone who gets it early, posts if it will be 11% or not to see if I need run into HD or Menards for any other items I know I will be needing.
