Menard’s ditching Craftsman?

I was in Burnsville, MN over the weekend to pick up a car and stopped in a Menard’s. They had no Craftsman tools on display except for the few items left in their clearance section at the other end of the store.

The local Menard’s here in Southwest, OH had the same thing going on last week. Anyone else notice this? I can’t imagine they’re very hot sellers considering all of it looks cheaper than Masterforce, but at a higher price point.

I've seen similar in Fargo ND. It's not quite completely gone, but a whole lot more sparse than it was a year ago. My guess is that they want to push the Masterforce brand.

I'm pretty sure Menards just made a large bulk purchase of CM junk for cheap, and once it's gone...it's gone.

And who cares really!

Same here, in addition the masterforce utility knife and razor blades are no longer US made. Very disappointing for me as they were my source for the best combination of quality and value.

John Menards got hi start in retail by buying closeout lots from manufacturers and distributors. Although his empire has grown tremendously over the years, there is evidence that he still does that to a limited extent.

No other way to explain the low prices occasionally observed. An example is the 3400 watt generator I bought a few years ago, on sale in the flier (wasn’t a one of a kind store manager’s special), for $188. Looking up the model number, every other vendor listed it as discontinued, yet Menards had dozens in all the stores I looked at.

I have been in three different Menards in the past couple of weeks. I always check the clearance aisle. All three stores have what's left of the Craftsman hand tools in the clearance section, but they don't have clearance prices on them.

The website shows a lot of the Craftsman stuff as discontinued. Don't know if it's all of it.

Plenty of other places to buy it if that's what you want.

Did they carry Sears Craftsman or SDB Craftsman?

Menards had the Craftsman swivel ratchets and I think those are SDB.

Other than toolboxes I didn't notice much for craftsmans other than a little here or that. Not that I ever saw a big display of craftsman at any Menards to being with. On a side note, maybe just end of the Christmas season, but Lowe's had craftsman boxes on pretty deep discount so if anyone is looking for some extra storage, check it out.

I hear you. I missed the boat on the Masterforce USA mechanic’s tools made by Danahar. They were still plentiful a couple of years ago but I never pulled the trigger. I’d love to have them now but even eBay doesn’t have many.

I don't know who made this $28.99 Masterforce 35 piece 3/8 drive Metric/SAE set but it's listed as made USA. Comes with ratchet, sockets and wrenches. It's available online only. Shipping comes up as $6 for me.

Search for "2378034" on the website.

This^^^^ The Menards I used to frequent would have tools from various manufacturers that appeared to be overstock, closeout and returned items. Some of it wouldn't even have packaging. That's ok if you get a smoking deal on it but often, if you checked online, pricing wasn't that heavily discounted. These items were usually here today, gone tomorrow. I suspect the presence of Craftsman tools at Menards is more of same.

Bought a 26" Black 5-drawer to use for my new welding cart build.

The new one that opened in Fairborn(?) a couple of months ago did not have any Craftsman. That’s the only Menards I’ve been to though.

I was never excited about the current offering of Craftsman tools from SB&D, but I had looked at Menard’s as being a potential store I could purchase them from once the new, “Made in USA with Global Materials” line is introduced.

I very much despise Lowe’s. They appear to have a huge theft problem on their hands when it comes to tools. The vast amount of “new” Craftsman for sale on eBay and Marketplace with the security tags & labels ripped right off of the back of the packages is astounding. It’s all stolen. The past few times I’ve gone into my two local Lowe’s stores I’ve been hovered over, followed and watched like a hawk by employees. The first time it happened, I let it go. The second time, I let it go again. The third time it happened, I put down the impact I was going to buy and left, promising to never return.

I don’t have that problem with Home Depot, Harbor Freight or Menard’s.
