I did a few searches and noticed posts from 2010 mentioning sales. Just wondering how frequently they run sales and if it is typically isolated to
one chest or the entire tool storage line.

Thanks,

Dan

Usually every month or two they'll have a couple different sizes on sale & every 3-4 months or so all are on sale.

Make sure to check their web site too. They had the boxes on internet sale only a few weeks ago. Ship to store at no cost.

I got a blue 56" roller cab a while back on sale ($699?). It had damage on it so I got $100 off. be sure to check it at the store if you get one. Cut the bands off the box and the box lifts right off.

I liked it well enough that I ordered two more 56" roller cabs and one upper chest on the 11% in store rebate deal they just had. One of the roller cabs was damaged. looked like a dent from the inside out on a lower drawer and 1/2 of the drawers wouldn't latch. They ordered another one since I wouldn't accept it. The hardware manager said that this happens more than you think.

Before buying these, I bought a HF 44" cab and one of the top flanges was bent in and I probably couldn't have set the upper on it so I took it back. They would have taken $100 off if I kept it.

Check it before you bring it home.......

When you look at menard's website, make sure to check all the sales flyers. Menard's likes to run 2-3 sales at one time unless they are doing an "11% sale".

Something else to keep in mind, if you purchase it with your BIG Card, if should be enough that you can choose either a 2-3% rebate or 6 months interest free. (use somebody else's money)

If you choose the rebate, I'm not sure if it'll add onto the annual 2% rebate from Menards. :dunno:

Before I bought, I printed out the pics of all the box sizes in the color I liked and then visualized where all my tools would go.

They are nice boxes, on par with the hf boxes, there are some trade offs. These have grip latch but don't have rolled edges. It depends on your application. I would say the hf box is more robust.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Here are my thoughts.

I'm considering these over HF for several reasons. Honestly first impressions in the store when I interacted with them was that they just "felt" nicer. They drawers seemed to roll smother and I prefer the latching mechanism to the HF. I also felt the overall fit and finish was a but nicer. These are all superficial assessments but none the less I have yet to find someone who owns one that was dissatisfied with their purchase. Finally, I can order them in black in lieu if red. Not the deciding factor but none the less it is certainly driving me to Consider them further.

I noticed today Menards extended the 11% mail in rebate for one more week.

So on to my next query, is it worth waiting for a "sale" or do I buy them with the 11% off? I like the drawer configuration offered by several of the models and I am thinking of picking them up in different sizes. My thinking at the moment is that unless the sales are much more than the 11% I may just dive in now and buy them.

Thanks to all who have commented

If you special order a color other than green while they're on sale be aware that you may be waiting a while. I ordered my blue 41" top and bottom on March 21st and my estimated arrival date is April 18th! They guy at the desk said this always happens when they go on sale. I'm not exactly excited about the wait and what's worse is that the counter guy said that the estimated date is just that, estimated! He said it could easily be longer. Not cool. If I don't see anything by the 18th I'll cancel my order and go to harbor freight and be done with it. Generally I love Menards but this is really frustrating me!

Less than a month really isn't that bad if they have to build them. Plus you knew in advance.

Menards has an 11% rebate "sale" now.
I think this doesn't apply to tool boxes or any larger items. Might have to check the details. Last I remember, their 11% sales are anything that fits in the paper bag, and if you read the fine print at the bottom, it basically says no big stuff, in a nice, Menards sort of way.

I'd say they are better than the HF. Like the other poster said, the drawers just have a better "feel" to them when you open and close them, and the whole thing just seems a little bit more square.

I am going to have to check these out next time I am at my parents. The biggest reason I still buy Craftsman boxes is the grip latch, but if someone else offers it, and I can get a better deal on them I may just jump ship next time I need a bigger box.
