anyone know who supplies menards with their pro rib steel. trying to match whats already on my building and their special order shipping is insane. i was looking at 250$ to ship 9 pieces to the store. more then what the material cost would have been
They actually have a bunch of manufacturing locations. I toured the Holiday City, OH plant years ago. They made trusses, laminated posts and rolled steel there. And I'm pretty sure shipping directly to the store is free. They do have some handling charges and they have a refundable fee for the pallet. They “roll their own” in Eau Claire, Wi, as far as I can tell.
I wanted a couple of pieces of galvanized finish Pro Rib for a Sauna stove heat shield but my local Menards store no longer stocks galvanized. I ended up using white cover sheets that came with Hunter Green from another local chain for a previous project a few years ago.. Not the look I wanted, but I wasn’t about to pay the shipping charge or deal with the lead time from Menards.
The Other project with the steel from the local yard ended up having a subtle difference in the pattern than the Menards steel, but matched close enough that it worked and you couldn’t see the difference from the ground. Apparently there are two different suppliers that service the Wausau lumberyard wholesalers who service our local yards.
So they charge you $20 for sending it to the store for “free”?Now, there is a $110 packaging/handling charge, but $90 of that is refundable if the packaging is returned.
Guessing they are charging you $20 for the labor to package it and the supplies, mine came wrapped in a cover and shrink wrapped. So they charge you $20 for sending it to the store for “free”?
And you have to go through the hassle of returning their “pallet”.

If you’re only getting a few pieces it’s not as good of a deal as a pile barns worth of materials. And their “pallet” return policy is a pita too. I’d imagine most of those don’t get returned and they make more money. They advertise “free shipping to store” but it’s really not free when they charge a handling fee. When you go to pick it up it’s sheets of tin partly shrink wrapped in a big stack of others peoples tin of all different lengths. Needless to say, I didn’t have the best experience and will go elsewhere for my next steel roofing project.Guessing they are charging you $20 for the labor to package it and the supplies, mine came wrapped in a cover and shrink wrapped.
To me it didn't seem like a bad deal.
I ordered the trim pieces to finish off a shed roof. The “pallet” was made of 2x8 and 2x10 boards strapped together to make a box. They took them back without issue even after they had sat outside for a month or so while I was working on the shed. But I had to drag the trailer with the 16’ long boards back to Menards to get my money back. I would’ve just kept them but on principle I took them back. i didn’t want to purchase lumber I didn’t want and wasn’t going to use but that’s what their “packaging” was made from. And IIRC they issued an in store credit for the amount because they told me that’s the only way they can return them. Idk if that’s true but they insisted.
You have two issues there. Or better yet, two different orders. Steel panels come on a heavy flat pallet, banded and shrink wrapped at an angle to drain water. And those pallets are tough, which is why Menards wants them returned and charges a fee for them.
All metal/brands is going to be different in color even after just a year, but shingles and vinyl siding is the same.My problem is that I'm trying to match color more then anything. My 2 building are only about 10 feet apart. In afraid that if it's not the same you going to be able to tell that they are different
