Menards Toolbox Blue compared to Saber and Newage cabinets

I have been interested in getting some cabinets for the garage, after reading reviews I thought I should go with Saber as it was in my budget and their customers seem to rave about them. The thing holding me up however was the color, I wanted to make sure the cabinets would match before making a decision. I reached out to Saber who shipped me a color sample of their blue, which was much darker than my toolbox. After receiving this chip and seeing the color wouldn't match, I reached out to Menards to see if the Masterforce brand would possibility get into the garage cabinet business. ( I love my toolbox btw its awesome) They were great, thanked me for the suggestion and then asked me to look into Newage cabinets as that might be a good fit. They also coordinated a color sample pack to be sent to my home. Well today I received that pack and to my disappointment it didnt match either. Below are the pictures...

The left sample is newage, and right is saber

You'd have to look really hard to notice the difference if they weren't next to each other.

Then there's the relevance that it is a garage.

Its actually off quite a bit, the camera does not show it to well.

The Newage looks a little bit darker, but at least it's a smooth texture rather than the rough texture of the Saber.

I was going to make a comment about how lighting in garages typically isn't very good and the difference may be harder to spot once separated by 18" or more. Then I remembered this is The Garage Journal where the lumens in the garage approach the lumens of the sun.

Even so, are you really going to notice it if they aren't next to each other and more importantly, will anyone else? Is it really that important?:dunno:

I think I would notice based on the design idea. If this helps someone great otherwise O well.

In my opinion, even though the Saber might match better, I'd want the smoother paint. If the rest of your cabinets are all the same color, I wouldn't fret over the tool box being slightly different.

Unless you keep your garage spotless it won't really matter if everything is the exact same color or not, because once you get dust, dirt, grease, and all the other **** we get on our stuff in our garages, you will never notice the slight difference between the blue.

Also, even items that come from the same manufacture (Craftsman for example) don't always match perfectly, even if they come from the same place. The Craftsman tool boxes and cabinets I have are all the red and black ones, and none of them matched 100 percent when I got them.

But now they all pretty much look the same because they all have the same layer of dust and other stuff on them.

Just buy the ones you like best, set up your garage, and have fun working on projects! That is a lot more important, and you can save worrying about it until the time comes to match the curtains in the living room....

Which is exactly why I specifically mentioned the proximity in both earlier posts in this thread.

I powder coated my Saber cabinet door and drawer fronts before I assembled the cabinets. It cost me $200 and now they are smooth. These cabinets started out rough textured tan (only color the first gen of Saber cabinets came in).

My suggestion is to get your cabinets in grey or black. Those colors go well with blue.

For me, a whole wall of blue, even if it all matched perfectly, would be too much.
